its time to start thinking about Christmas crafts now that Halloween is over, right?? ok, so it may be a tad early, but when it comes to advent calendars, it is crucial to have it ready on time. so today i am sharing my new {and favorite!} advent calendar i have made to date:
first off, i love that christmas paper! i bought it on clearance a couple years ago and have waited for the perfect project for it.second, all the different sized cubbies are totally fun! this great little limited edition advent calendar box from Silhouette is the perfect little advent calendar. its heavy duty and it came with free downloads for drawers and boxes to fit each space.
i choose the drawer option because they are easier for little hands to open. {my almost 3 year old is already fascinated with this advent calendar. he LOVES opening the drawers…. just wait until they’re filled with candy!!}
i’ll be honest, this is sitting on my mantel right now so that i can admire it. i love how it turned out! so pretty.

Woman, you are ON it! Hats off. I saw this advent calender yesterday on the Silhouette website. She is lovely. I am sticking to last year’s calender though (http://www.thedutchgirlsadventures.net/2010/12/making-family-memories.html). Perhaps I’ll even get around to finishing it this year. Have a lovely day!

I visited your blog today, and I eoyjned reading it very much. It appears we have several things in common: a love of reading, and a love of Japan! I order special origami paper all the time; my current craze is folding those tiny, puffy stars which are given in jars for friendship. Do you see them there?
This is totally darling!
Love it! Can’t wait to start making mine.
This may be a d.u.m.b. question…can you make the advent calendar w/out an actual Silhouette machine?
it’s not a dumb question.. I have the same question… haha
Not a dumb question at all! I should have clarified that better in my post. You could definitely use the white advent box and make your own boxes for it. with the download card that comes with the advent box, you could print off the boxes and/or drawers and then cut them out by hand, no problem!
happy crafting,
linda
Question, does the advent calendar come with all of the numbers and designs too, or do you have to use your own creativity to figure out how to decorate it? I got a silhouette recently, but I have not used it yet and I am kind of intimidated. Do you just cut the pieces out with cardstock and glue them all on the drawers somehow? What kind of glue do you use? A lot of it looks so tiny and intricate I wasn’t sure how to put the whole thing together. Thanks! It’s beautiful!!!
Hi Kelly,
Don’t be intimidated!! Just dig right in and put that tool to work!! {here’s a basic Silhouette SD tutorial: http://www.craftaholicsanonymous.net/2011/02/using-your-silhouette-basic-how-to.html}
No, the advent calendar does not come with the numbers and designs that i used on my advent. the font i used is Andalus and i think the snowflake design actually comes with the silhouette. the wreath i used i downloaded online while i was making it. yes, i cut all the boxes out of cardstock or thick pattern paper. I used a Glue Glider Pro adhesive runner for my boxes, but you could use a a glue stick. The boxes are easy to put together. Just time consuming. I honestly just patterned my advent after the sample advent pictured on the Advent Calendar packaging! you can do the same thing! makes it easier.
hope that helps! if you have more questions, just let me know!
happy crafting,
linda
