Happy Monday! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday! We sure did. But I can’t believe its almost time to start out Christmas Countdown already!!! wow! Is December really just around the corner? yikes! Christmas is so rich with tradition and an advent calendar is one of our favorite traditions. My oldest is now 4 and he’s really getting into the Christmas spirit this year. So its fun to have little traditions like this to make it fun for the kiddos!
Christmas Countdown
I used Silhouette’s 2012 Limited Edition Advent Calendar this year. {you can see last year’s advent calendar here!} My theme was “Brown Paper Packages”. This advent comes with envelope shapes to cut with my Silhouette CAMEO or the new PORTRAIT, but I decided I wanted a small little package so that it could hold a little candy. I always grew up with a candy Christmas Countdown, so I wanted to continue doing the candy as the prize for each day.
Brown Paper Packages
The cute little boxes are cut from brown kraft paper. They measure about 2.5″ from top to bottom and they fit perfectly in the advent frame! Its projects like this that make me absolutely love my Silhouette! If I had used other digital cutting tools, I would not have been able to resize and reshape the design to fit my needs for this advent calendar. I was able to tweak the design to fit just right. {Silhouette Studio lets you manipulate any shape to be longer, wider, taller, larger, smaller, whatever you want!} I then used the free form circle tool in the Silhouette Studio to create 2 sizes of circles and cut them out to place behind the numbers, which were also cut with my CAMEO.
I do use the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Software. It is an upgrade, but since I like to design some of my own stuff and tweak purchased designs, it makes it easier for me.
Silhouette Advent Calendar
I am in love with our Christmas Countdown! I have 2 little boys who are excited to devour the candy in each box each day! For them, December 1 can’t come quick enough!
happy crafting!

Did you use a silhouette shape for your bags? This is so cute and would love to buy the same shape you used.

Very cute. I am making something similar but cannot find the clips. Where did you find them? thanks.
The clips come with the advent calendar. You may be able to find something similar at an office supply store.
Hi Linda! I just adore your cute countdown project! In fact, I noticed that you used my box design for each day. I was wondering if you’d let me highlight your project over on my blog in the next couple of days. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Lori
This is an adorable countdown!
i so want to make this advent calendar with the boxes from lori that you used, could you tell me what the number is to order please and i see you sized to 2.5 inches
so adorable, love it
found the file, could you explain how you reduced the size to 2.5 please, i am a newbie and need a little help
Hi Lois,
Glad you found it! {Sorry for my slow response.} Select the design {by clicking on it} and a box will appear around the design. You can change the size of the shape by dragging the corners of the box in OR if you want to just make the shape skinner/wider, then drag just the top or just the bottom side as needed. Does this make sense?
thanks,
Linda
Hi there! I stole your idea and used it as a christmas/prechristams gift for my bf. I don’t have this Silhouette thing that you’re talking about, so I had to cut all the shapes myself with scissors. I found a template for the boxes on the internet, used correction pen to paint all the numbers. Took me 2 days to finish it but here it is:

I’m planning to put a little heart-shaped keychain with my name engraved on it in the last bag.
Thanks again for the awsome idea :)
Awesome, Agatha!! It turned out so cute! Way to go on hand cutting all those cute boxes. wow!! Thanks for sharing your picture! That was fun!
