Love these rustic Wood Slice Ornaments by Stephanie! What a great handmade Christmas gift for neighbors and family! Enjoy! Linda
I don’t know about you, but now that we’re into December, I’m officially into Christmas prep mode. I’m going to show you how I made these wood ornaments that would look great as a collection on your tree, or would make perfect gifts for friends and neighbors.
DIY Wood Slice Ornaments
Start by cutting a branch into discs and drill a hole in the tops.
A drill press is the easiest way to do this, but you can use a regular drill as well. (Place your wood slice onto a block of wood so that it stays stable if using a regular drill.)
Sand the faces so they’re a little smoother and the vinyl will stick better.
Cut out various vinyl shapes/words with a die cutter {we love the Silhouette Cameo!} to decorate the wood slices. I did a white nativity, a turquoise deer head and a pink JOY. Then, since I can’t leave well-enough alone…I added pink glitter paint to the Joy ornament to add some sparkle!
To keep with the rustic look (you know, aside from the glittery vinyl and all! haha) I used twine to make the hangers. Tie a small loop through the hole of the wood, then tie a larger one through there that you’ll actually use to hang the ornament. If you just did one loop through the wood, the ornament would twist when you hang it on the tree. So my solution was to use two loops so the wood slice ornaments would hang straight.
So, go find a branch somewhere and get cutting!
What would you put on wood slice ornaments? Who would you give them to?

Beautiful designs, I love this trend and it fits perfect with my Christmas decorations. Love the deer silhouette. I would love to make each of my niece and nephews one with their initials. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Carol! Initials is a great idea–I know my kids love ornaments that are specifically theirs :)
So darn cute! Love em!
Thanks Nancy–so glad you like ’em!
This is such a fun idea! Love it!
What kind of saw did u cut your disks with???
Love these, Stephanie! The nativity one is so pretty!
Love the nativity ornament . Can you please tell me how thick and the circumstance of the wood you used?

Hi. I was wondering how u were able to use the pine? Mine is so sticky and I was wondering if there was a way to dry it out. I went to my local christmas tree farm and grabbed a few that they already cut but they are so sticky!
Thanks,
Nicole
Bake them
Great Idea…Love it…Just curious, how did you keep it from cracking when you drilled it and did you cure or season the wood slices before you put the vinyl on it?
Where did you find your design for the holy family? I love the looks of it!
I’m wondering this same thing! I am making these for a youth group at my church and would love to use this same Nativity design if possible!
