Happy Tuesday, friends! I know you’re all getting ready for holiday parties, but I am switching it up a bit and showing off the party I threw for my youngest…. The theme was The Very Hungry Caterpillar party! My little Hayden absolutely LOVES The Very Hungry Caterpillar book by Eric Carle. So of course his second birthday party had to be centered around this adorable book!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Party
How about a Very Hungry Caterpillar “cupcake cake”? Simple chocolate cupcakes frosted in two shades for green and an extra large red frosted cupcake for the head. Add in some funky curly candles and some candies and you have an adorable caterpillar cake! And it was super easy to make. Which is a must for me!
This is my little guy with his favorite book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which we read at least once a day! I snapped this picture during the birthday boy’s photo shoot. {yes, he’s also a big fan of Elmo.}
These grapes were turned into caterpillars using wood skewers. I snipped off the ends of the skewers with kitchen shears. This was a fun finger food for the kiddos! There were also strawberries. I had wanted to have more of the foods from the book, but ran out of time getting the party ready. Parties sure do take a lot of time to put together, don’t they??
This is a simple balloon caterpillar. I put a penny in each balloon before I blew it up. This made it so they would hang straight down. The balloons are tied to the curtain rod in my breakfast nook. Such an inexpensive {and easy!} DIY party decoration!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake
I think my favorite part of The Very Hungry Caterpillar party {besides the party boy!!} was the caterpillar cupcake! It turned out perfect. I was stoked because I am not a baker or a chef or even remotely talented in the kitchen! {don’t look too closely at the frosting job on the cupcakes….}
Do your kids enjoy The Very Hungry Caterpillar?
happy crafting,
Linda

how adorable! I never would have thought of that for a party theme. My daughter just had her tenth party and requested a frog cake. I’m no baker myself but she loved it and her friends thought it was cool! If you put enough love into it your kids will love and appreciate it!
So cute!! We did this same theme for my 2 year old back in September. Here’s a link to our party: http://babyblakely.blogspot.com/2012/09/party-time-very-hungry-caterpillar.html?m=1
We love the book as well! This is such a sweet idea! :)
Very cute! This is actually the theme I have picked for my 3rd baby’s nursery. I love the bright colors and the story. Great party.
good idea with the penny!
