Rainbow Paper Dahlia Flowers

Rainbow Paper Dahlia flowers || Great Spring craft idea that kids can help make

This post is brought to you by ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS. All opinions are mine!

Rainbow Paper Dahlia Flowers

Spring is finally in the air here {FINALLY!!} and Easter is just around the corner! I love using a rainbow of colors to decorate for Easter. Last year I created this rainbow Easter Egg banner and we are enjoying this fun banner again this year in my entry way. Rainbows make me happy and I think its a great way to celebrate this special holiday.

If you’re looking to COLORIZE your Easter, then I have the perfect Easter paper craft for you! Paper Dahlia Flowers are easy to make, look fantastic on any wall, and they are an easy craft to get the kids involved in making!

DIY Paper Dahlia Flowers || Love the rainbow of colors!

My 4 year old preschooler had a blast helping me make a rainbow of Dahlia flowers to decorate with for Easter. He loved cutting and rolling the vibrant colored ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS into cones with me. It turned out to be a fun little mommy/son crafting project.

Here’s another way to arrange the dahlia flowers. I love the bright colors on the gray wall with my newly finished white board and batten in my Dining Room.

Rainbow of vibrant colored ASTROBRIGHT® papers

ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS sent me a big box of the most luscious, vibrant colored paper in a rainbow of colors. Talk about a box full of happiness! See my Instagram here. You can find ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS online here.

How to Make Paper Dahlia Flowers

dahlia paper flowers tutorial

Supplies:

  • 10 Sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS per flower {I did 4 layers on each flower. The biggest layer took 4 sheets, the next layer took 3, then 2 and then the center took 1 sheets.}
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • Low Temp Glue Gun
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Cardboard

1. Cut a 6.5″ circle out of cardboard. I used a bowl and pen to trace a circle on the cardstock and then cut it out with scissors.

kids easter craft idea

2. Use your paper trimmer to cut your colorful paper into rectangles. I cut all pieces of paper into 4.25″ x 5.5″, which is basically an 8.5×11 into fourths. My 4 year was great at helping me cut the papers. I would measure and then he loved to run the blade across to cut it.

Note: You can see my kitchen cabinets are medium wood color. Last week, I started painting them white. If you want to see the process, check out my Instagram

3. Then roll your pieces of paper into cone shape with a point in the center of one end and use a small dot of glue to hold in place. If you have kids helping you, I very highly recommend using a low temperature glue gun. Glue gun burns are not fun!

4. Then I started glueing the first layer of cones all the way around the edge of the cardboard circle. The next layer I glued the cones around a little inside of the outer layer, without cutting or trimming them. For the third layer, I trimmed off about 2-3″ off the cone before gluing them on. And then for the center, I cut off the tips of the cones and glued them into the center of the flower.

*Note: I did all the glueing because I didn’t think my 4 year old was big enough for it, but if you have older kids, they could totally help with the glueing parts.

These are beautiful! I can’t believe they are made from paper. The colors are absolutely perfect for spring, too! Hope you’ll them with us over at the Motivational Monday Link Up

They would be a great prom decoration. It would take up lots of wall space, cost very little, and be fun to make.

The flowers can be made in any color to go with any theme, what a great idea.

I love that idea! Thanks for sharing!

I spread apart a paper clip to make a inexpensive hangers for light weight projects. Just pull it apart to enough to glue one side down on the cardboard. The other side should stick out enough to hook it on one of the tiny clear Command hooks.

    Hi Linda,
Do you have to buy a package of each colour of astrobrights separately or do they sell mixed colour packages?

    1. 9.1

I was sent packages of each color, but I believe you can buy them in assortment packs with lots of different colors.

Hi! I am doing this for my dorm apartment and was wondering if you knew which specific colors you used for each flower? I love your color schemes and wanted to try to get it as close to yours as possible. Thanks :)

    1. 21.1

Hi Celine, I don’t have the names of the colors I used. I am so sorry! I just tried to pick coordinating shades with each color.

  20. 22

I’m going to use these in white for our Everest VBS. But I think I will add the same design to the back of the flower to make a cool snowflake that can be hung from the ceilings!

    Rhonda Fridley

    Linda,
I love the flowers, and would like to do them with my class for a spring project.
I see you have them up on the wall. Have you tried putting them on windows,
and if so how did that work. I just took down our snowmen, and am looking for
a spring flower project to put up next. Any suggestions would be much
appreciated. I just read a comment where someone is using command hooks.
    Do those work on windows?
    Thanks.
    Rhonda Fridley

    1. 29.1

Hi Rhonda! Command strips do work on windows. Then you can take them down when you’re done. You could also use those small plastic suction cups that have tiny metal hooks attached to them. Those would well on windows too. I think you can find those at staples. Hope that helps!

    Thank you so much!

We had a great 2-hour rainy day crafty time (2 kids 8+6).

I just stitched some thread (a loop) through the front and back of the cardboard before glueing the first round so that they could be hung.

We are SO excited to surprise our family on Easter. My elementary age granddaughters & I made the Easter vases (lined with peeps & eggs) and we used artificial flowers. We also are finishing making the name place settings with plastic eggs in a small clay pot full of grass & eggs. We purchased all the items needed for a family of 12 & 2 tables for $24! So fun, we thank you for your fabulous ideas!

This looks like a really cute idea. I plan to put magnets on the back of some and pop can pull tabs as hangers on others. What I would like to know is what adaptations would I have to make if I start with a 4″ circle?

  40. 42
    Alice Gauding

I can’t wait to make these. I found the paper at my local Wal-mart. I plan to use pop can pull tabs on some as hangers and magnets on the back of others because I have a metal door. What I would like to know is; What changes or adaptations would I have to make if I start with a 4 inch circle?

What is the paper circle for in step 1?

    1. 43.1

      To attach the petals to.

  42. 44

How fun! I am going to share this on Pinterest.

  43. 45

    thank you

    1. 45.1

Thanks, Vero! I hot glued a small loop of string to the back of each one and then hung them on small nails in the wall.
