Rainbow Paper Dahlia Flowers
Spring is finally in the air here {FINALLY!!} and Easter is just around the corner! I love using a rainbow of colors to decorate for Easter. Last year I created this rainbow Easter Egg banner and we are enjoying this fun banner again this year in my entry way. Rainbows make me happy and I think its a great way to celebrate this special holiday.
If you’re looking to COLORIZE your Easter, then I have the perfect Easter paper craft for you! Paper Dahlia Flowers are easy to make, look fantastic on any wall, and they are an easy craft to get the kids involved in making!
My 4 year old preschooler had a blast helping me make a rainbow of Dahlia flowers to decorate with for Easter. He loved cutting and rolling the vibrant colored ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS into cones with me. It turned out to be a fun little mommy/son crafting project.
Here’s another way to arrange the dahlia flowers. I love the bright colors on the gray wall with my newly finished white board and batten in my Dining Room.
ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS sent me a big box of the most luscious, vibrant colored paper in a rainbow of colors. Talk about a box full of happiness! See my Instagram here. You can find ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS online here.
How to Make Paper Dahlia Flowers
Supplies:
- 10 Sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ ASTROBRIGHTS® PAPERS per flower {I did 4 layers on each flower. The biggest layer took 4 sheets, the next layer took 3, then 2 and then the center took 1 sheets.}
- Scissors
- Pen
- Low Temp Glue Gun
- Paper Trimmer
- Cardboard
1. Cut a 6.5″ circle out of cardboard. I used a bowl and pen to trace a circle on the cardstock and then cut it out with scissors.
2. Use your paper trimmer to cut your colorful paper into rectangles. I cut all pieces of paper into 4.25″ x 5.5″, which is basically an 8.5×11 into fourths. My 4 year was great at helping me cut the papers. I would measure and then he loved to run the blade across to cut it.
Note: You can see my kitchen cabinets are medium wood color. Last week, I started painting them white. If you want to see the process, check out my Instagram.
3. Then roll your pieces of paper into cone shape with a point in the center of one end and use a small dot of glue to hold in place. If you have kids helping you, I very highly recommend using a low temperature glue gun. Glue gun burns are not fun!
4. Then I started glueing the first layer of cones all the way around the edge of the cardboard circle. The next layer I glued the cones around a little inside of the outer layer, without cutting or trimming them. For the third layer, I trimmed off about 2-3″ off the cone before gluing them on. And then for the center, I cut off the tips of the cones and glued them into the center of the flower.
*Note: I did all the glueing because I didn’t think my 4 year old was big enough for it, but if you have older kids, they could totally help with the glueing parts.
I love the texture and color these bright, happy paper Dahlia flowers offer as Easter Decor! My kids love looking at them

Thank you, Elizabeth! :)
These are beautiful! I can’t believe they are made from paper. The colors are absolutely perfect for spring, too! Hope you’ll them with us over at the Motivational Monday Link Up
They would be a great prom decoration. It would take up lots of wall space, cost very little, and be fun to make.
The flowers can be made in any color to go with any theme, what a great idea.
I love that idea! Thanks for sharing!
So I loved these so much I went out bought paper and have already made three of them; however I can not figure out how to hang them! Lol, suggestions?
I spread apart a paper clip to make a inexpensive hangers for light weight projects. Just pull it apart to enough to glue one side down on the cardboard. The other side should stick out enough to hook it on one of the tiny clear Command hooks.
How very pretty! I love the bright colors for spring!
Thanks, Jennie!

Hi Linda,
Do you have to buy a package of each colour of astrobrights separately or do they sell mixed colour packages?
I was sent packages of each color, but I believe you can buy them in assortment packs with lots of different colors.
Is the paper cardstock weight or copier weight?
I can’t wait to make these for the halls of our preschool!

I used regular weight papers :) The card stock didn’t roll as well.

Hi! I am doing this for my dorm apartment and was wondering if you knew which specific colors you used for each flower? I love your color schemes and wanted to try to get it as close to yours as possible. Thanks :)
Hi Celine, I don’t have the names of the colors I used. I am so sorry! I just tried to pick coordinating shades with each color.
I’m going to use these in white for our Everest VBS. But I think I will add the same design to the back of the flower to make a cool snowflake that can be hung from the ceilings!
Great idea!!
So Beautiful..love this. I have created a beautiful girl using paper and dressed her up with these paper cones.
Thanks for the idea..!!
Did you use colored paper or cardstock? Also, did you order order directly from astrobrights?
Thanks,
Crystal E

Thank you, Ruth! I am so glad you stopped by and said hi :)
Love your ideas, I figure if a child can make these things, so can I.
Linda,
I love the flowers, and would like to do them with my class for a spring project.
I see you have them up on the wall. Have you tried putting them on windows,
and if so how did that work. I just took down our snowmen, and am looking for
a spring flower project to put up next. Any suggestions would be much
appreciated. I just read a comment where someone is using command hooks.
Do those work on windows?
Thanks.
Rhonda Fridley
Hi Rhonda! Command strips do work on windows. Then you can take them down when you’re done. You could also use those small plastic suction cups that have tiny metal hooks attached to them. Those would well on windows too. I think you can find those at staples. Hope that helps!
These look stunning in the bright colours, thanks ?X
Thanks, Michelle!
Thank you so much!
We had a great 2-hour rainy day crafty time (2 kids 8+6).
I just stitched some thread (a loop) through the front and back of the cardboard before glueing the first round so that they could be hung.
xxx
Great idea for the loop! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! Thanks for stopping by :)

We are SO excited to surprise our family on Easter. My elementary age granddaughters & I made the Easter vases (lined with peeps & eggs) and we used artificial flowers. We also are finishing making the name place settings with plastic eggs in a small clay pot full of grass & eggs. We purchased all the items needed for a family of 12 & 2 tables for $24! So fun, we thank you for your fabulous ideas!
i love your colorful designs..can’t wait to try it..
These are so colorful and bright on your wall, I know my girls are going to love this!! Any chance you’d share your wall color?
Hi Mariann! Its Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. I do a color match with Sherwin Williams paint to save money :)
Thank you!! I do the same with my paint colors!! :)
What weight of paper did you use?

how to do you hang it
Hot glue a little loop of string on the back.
This looks like a really cute idea. I plan to put magnets on the back of some and pop can pull tabs as hangers on others. What I would like to know is what adaptations would I have to make if I start with a 4″ circle?
I can’t wait to make these. I found the paper at my local Wal-mart. I plan to use pop can pull tabs on some as hangers and magnets on the back of others because I have a metal door. What I would like to know is; What changes or adaptations would I have to make if I start with a 4 inch circle?
What is the paper circle for in step 1?
To attach the petals to.
How fun! I am going to share this on Pinterest.
I love it! Please can you tell me how you fixe it on the wall?
thank you
Thanks, Vero! I hot glued a small loop of string to the back of each one and then hung them on small nails in the wall.
Absolutely beautiful, will try some, Linda, I have a paper distribution company in Guatemala and I´d like to translate and post this tutorial on my company FB Page, can I have your email so I can contact you directly for your permission?

I’ve seen these made from what looked like pages from old books giving them a very vintage look. Old music sheets would work great too.
My class is in the process of making these flowers, so far so good. I completed on and it was very easy and beautiful when done. The only hard work is preparing the flower petals, however its totally worth it.
