When it comes to Halloween decor, I tend to go more cute than scary. If you’re like me, then these Wood Halloween Cats will be right up your alley! They make a fun Halloween craft that you can use year after year.
DIY Wood Halloween Cats
I am always obsessed with googly eyes around Halloween! {see my Googly eye Halloween door!} And so of course, I added googly eyes to my Halloween cats.
This pair of cool cats are spooky cute!
Wood Halloween Cats Tutorial
Supplies:
- 9.25″ long piece of 1×6 wood
- 6.5″ long piece of 1×6 wood
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Printer (I used my PIXMA MG7720 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer)
- 2 sheets White Card Stock
- Matte Paper Mod Podge
- Foam Brush
- Black Spray Paint
- 4 – 1″ googly eyes
- Hot Glue
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- 2 Black Buttons
- 12 pieces of Twine cut into 2″ pieces
- Saw {I used a Compound Saw}
- Patterned Printable {download below}
- Measure 2.5″ down in the center of both pieces of wood. Draw a dot and then draw straight lines from the dot to the top 2 corners.
2. Carefully cut along the lines on both pieces of wood to create the cats’ ears. *Always use safety glasses and gloves when using saws or power tools. Spray paint the sides of the wood with black spray paint.
For the pattern papers on my cats, I watercolored a couple designs. But lucky for you, I scanned in my watercolor designs and you can download them for free! {below}
I used my Canon PIXMA MG7720 printer to scan my watercolor designs in. You can see the quality of the scans on the free printables— it looks like you watercolored it yourself!
The PIXMA MG7720 Printer is very easy to use and produces beautiful quality prints and scans.
3. Print off the Prints using white card stock paper. Click links below to download.
4. Place your wood on your pattern paper and trace.
5. Cut along the traced outline for each cat.
6. Using a foam brush, apply the paper to your wood using Mod Podge. Then apply a coat of Mod Podge of the paper to seal it.
7. Hot glue 2 googly eyes, 6 twine whiskers, and a button nose onto each cat. Tie coordinating ribbon around each cat and tie in a bow.
Add these cute Halloween cats to your Halloween decor!
