Quick Pendant Light Makeover

Now that spring is almost over, I decided to give 2 of my pendant lights a quick spruce up and spring cleaning. I wanted to lighten and brighten the room a bit….

First I wiped off all the dust and grime {ew} from the top of the pendant light {shade?} and the metal fixture. Its crazy how dirty lights get in 1 year! Just removing the grime made the lights so much brighter! amazing.

GE lightbulbThen I replaced my incandescent bulbs with GE Energy Smart CFL bulbs to save money and save electricity. The bulbs I chose have the GE Spiral on the inside a round bulb. Which I thought was really cool and looks tons better! {i’m not crazy about the spiral look…}

 That is one clean and bright light! Looks pretty snazzy, doesn’t it? {do you see the shine on the top?}

You can find GE at:  GELighting.com Twitter and Facebook

I love that the new bulbs will help me save money throughout the year and they last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Switching your bulbs is a small way to help the earth and your pocketbook!

I calculated that just by switching these 2 bulbs to Energy Smart CFL’s, I will save $72 over the life time of the bulbs. wow! You can find out how much you’ll save using this handy tool.

TIP: One easy way to switch over to Energy Smart CFL bulbs is when an incandescent bulb burns out, replace it with an Energy Smart CFL bulb. That way you only buy a couple of the energy efficient bulbs at a time and don’t have to spend a lot of money all at once.

    I sure like that CFL bulbs are getting less ugly. We just switched a bunch of our fixtures over to LED bulbs which I also quite like for task lighting, though you have to be careful of the color of the light. Often it’s rather cold and unpleasant.

      I completely agree on the LED! The color can be sort of lifeless haha. Thanks for stopping by!

    I love the idea of saving money. I love how much longer these lights last. However, they just aren’t bright enough for me. We don’t have overhead lights in our home, mostly just lamps. Our home is old and dark. I wish we could get a compromise. I wish the lights would shine brighter. Our home is just sooooo dark. And… why does the government have to tell us which bulbs to buy? Can we not make that decision for ourselves?

    Switching to energy efficient bulbs in a great idea! My only suggestion for your next bulb purchase is to find a local business in your area that sells lights/light bulbs instead of getting them from the grocery store or pharmacy! Support your local small and family-owned businesses while improving your home! My father owns a lighting store in New Jersey, so I always like suggesting purchasing lighting and/or lighting accessories from family owned businesses like ours!
