Remember that old crib spring I had? Well here it is!

I hung the pictures with decorated mini clothes pins and cut strips of brown burlap for the edges. I think the burlap added a nice “frame”.
And I was surprised that most of you voted correctly in my sidebar poll!! Good job on guessing that I would use it as a wall hanging! I mean seriously, why didn’t you vote for a witch mobile? ;)

And the grand reveal of the staircase all freshly decorated:
I wanted to put family pictures in my staircase, but I didn’t want to spend the money on frames (I’m rEaLly cheap!). The crib spring was given to me by a good friend and when I saw it, I knew exactly what I’d do with it!
Here’s how my staircase looked for 2.5 years. So sad and depressing! 
Since there’s a chance we might be moving in the spring, I didn’t want to paint just to have to paint again. But the cream and white color scheme was killing me!! Someone suggested framing fabric and I loved the idea. It added color, was cheap {I had most of the fabric already}, and was easy to do. The main fabric is Robert Kaufman’s “Fruit Basket” in case you were wondering.

This project took a lot longer than I had planned. Maybe that’s why I put it off for over 2 years! Decorating a staircase (on a dime) is tricky with the slant and having sooo much wall space to fill. Oh and let me tell you, it’s not easy taking pictures of a staircase either!!

Seriously brilliant! And I left one of these precious apparatuses (sp??) on the curbside about a month ago. UGH!!! I LOVE metal accents and this would be just the ticket!

i just came across your blog from the blog swap you did at u create. your site is so cute! so many fun projects. love the scripture covers, i am about to post a childrens BOM i made for my kiddos too. oh and i love this idea you came up with for your stairway. i would have never thought of the springs from a crib! so creative!! i just added a family tree to my stairway and should add some vinyl lettering like you did to top it off. so fun! i'll be checking back often!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! My son's crib was recalled and I saved the pieces to craft with. My hubby thought I was nuts but now I can show him this and prove that I'm not! Or, at least, that I'm in good company. ;)
I just found your blog, and I'm so inspired! I had done a couple hoops with fabric, and I love how you have lots on your staircase! Sweet! I also love how you turned the crib spring into something fun! Love it!
Maybe you said it and I missed it but did you spray paint the srings? it looks great btw. Who knew you could make something like that look so great?
