How to Make Doll Diapers and Wipes
Hello! I’m Christina from 2 little hooligans and I’m so excited to be joining all of my fellow craftaholics out there today! I want to thank Linda for inviting me today, it is such an honor for little ole’ me to be here with all of you today.
So here’s a little bit about me…
I’m a stay at home with three little ones, 3 and under. I live in northern NH in our 1870’s farm house that we have been living in, while renovating for the past 6 years. We have two massive gardens where we raise all of our veggies and fruit for our family and friends. We enjoy the country living and the simple pleasures it brings us. Over on my blog I share my life and my love for the outdoors, sewing, crafting and the simple things in life. I started fat quarter friday a few months ago where each Friday I post tutorials using those cute little pieces of fabric that everyone loves to hoard and swoon over, but never seem to use. I hope you all get a chance to stop by and join me one of these days for fat quarter friday!

Now enough about me, Let’s get started, shall we?!
How to Make Doll Diapers & Wipes Tutorial
(Part 1: diapers, wipes and wipes case)

DIY Doll Diaper TUTORIAL
Materials Needed:
*Scrap pieces of fleece, felt or any other non-fraying material
*Cotton fabric scraps or a fat quarter if you want them to all match
*Minky fabric or flannel scraps
*1/2″ sew on velcro
Make your template shaped like above. To find the right size for your doll, lay the doll down and wrap it with a piece of paper as if you were going to diaper it with the piece of paper. Just fold and work with the piece of paper to get it to the right size. These diapers are made to fit my little girls favorite lovely…bear. But I also made sure they would fit her favorite dolls. So just play with the size a bit. My template is 8 1/2″ long and about 5 1/2″ on the width and about 1 1/2″ longer on the the tab side. And as you can see, I folded my paper both ways before cutting so that they were even on all sides and just trimmed the tabs off on the front of the diaper. Now you have your perfectly shaped template.
Trace the template onto the wrong side of the cotton fabric. If you want to add a little heart or label onto your diaper, add it now. Now take your piece of minky fabric and cotton fabric and place right sides together. Pin in place. Now sew directly onto your template outline. Make sure you leave a 1 1/2″ space for turning right side out on the back of your diaper.

How to Make Doll Wipes + Wipe Case
And because I couldn’t just stop there, I had to make up some wipes. I just cut my scrap pieces of fleece into 5 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ pieces. And that’s it. super easy right?
*3″ x 5″ (flap on top)
* little hearts if you want to embellish the flap
* cut two pieces at 6″ x 6 1/2″
Take one of the larger pieces of fleece and cut a small oval shape out of it. This is hole that the wipes will be pulled through.
Take the smaller piece of fleece and add some hearts to the flap if you want. Then cover up the oval opening with your flap and sew in place. Just make sure you leave enough room on the bottom of the flap to attach to velcro.
This is where my velcro ended up.
Now take the other piece of fleece and place it right sides facing with the top of the “wipes container.”
Sew completely around the “container.” Now pull right side out through the oval opening.

I am so excited about this! My daughter is turning 2 next month & she has been potty trained for about 3 months so changing her baby's diapers is entertaining for her, she even grabs the real wipes. I am so going to make these! Thank you!

Thanks!
(^: Perfect, my daughter has been asking for new diapers for her dolls…
Is it possible for you to upload a template for the diaper. I keep trying to fold and measure my daughters doll but I can’t get it to come out correctly when I cut it, and I think this would be an awesome idea for my daughter for Christmas. They are very beautiful & you are very creative & I am glad that I found you for inspiration. If it is possible I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you & great job! :)
Hi,
Do you have a printable pattern for the dolly diapers I can not get it to work out and just keep messing up :O(
Hi Shawnna,
I’m sorry, but I don’t! That was a guest blogger project.
linda
Thank you SO much for sharing this–SO cute!!! I will be making these for my “Little Mommies” (my grandchildren)!!
Thank you! I have been thinking of doing this for my 2 year old who has become suddenly obsessed with changing diapers. I think after seeing how simple it is I am finally going to be brave enough to give it a go (my sewing machine hates me! lol). If all goes well I will have one happy little girl in the morning. :)
These are so cute. My little girl is always saying that her baby is stinky and needs to be changed. She tries to get her diapers but that is too expensive to continue with so this is a perfect solution. I will have to make her some soon. Thanks so much for the tutorial and lovely pictures. I am so excited and I am sure she will be too. OOOHHH, it just hit me… her birthday is in a couple weeks. This would be a perfect gift. Even better, a friend of mine is having a second baby and I wanted to do soething for her older girl. I think I am going to be busy.
Awesome! These baby doll diapers would make perfect gifts! Thanks for stopping by, Dannee!
happy crafting,
Linda
Perfect!!!! My daughter has been asking for a changing table for her babies for Christmas this year and these will be perfect!
I love this! The Lord has blessed my husband and I with three beautiful daughters (ages 2, 4, and 6). For Christmas all requested babydolls. I cannot wait to use my extra fabric for this. However with another little one on the way I will be using the wipes container tutorial to make a life size one. I’m trying to rid our lives of so much plastic and cannot see using homemade cloth wipes in a disposable wipes container. Seems like a contradiction to me. (Just my thought.) You do beautiful work. Many blessings to you and yours.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
happy crafting,
Linda
You have just saved Christmas! Thanks for the tutorial!!
I absolutely love this idea!!!! Thank yous!!!
I’m a former cloth diaper addict and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to get on these so my little girls can have these for their dolls.
I don’t do free hand patterns very good they always turn out so wrong. Would you mind scanning and emailing your pattern??? I can then use the different size printing option on my printer for my daughters dolls ….
These are adorable! Great idea! Where do you get your felt?
Just wondering how experienced you should be around a sewing machine for this project.
I know two little girls who have birthdays coming up and I would love to make them a couple sets of these.
I took home ec in junior high and I’m not an idiot around a sewing machine I just hope this involves little help from my more experienced mother haha
Just finished the wipes and wipe case! So cute! Made it out of felt since that’s what I had, but works great! Thanks for sharing!
Adorable..what size doll???
Thank you for this!!! ADORABLE idea!!! I am off to make some for my girls now!!!
I’m South African, and have been making fabric dolls with embroidered faces for years. Stumbled upon your site, and just loove it. Thanks for all the inspirational ideas. We have to compromise here, as we do not always have the necessary materials and notions available. Thanks so much again, and God Bless
Thank you for stopping by, Margi! Blessings from the USA! :)
This is SO CUTE! Thank you for sharing!
I am a mother of a 1 year old daughter and love your design of diapers and baby wipes I was wondering if you mind if I use your pattern to make these and try to sell them at a small local craft shop to sell for some pocket money
Hi Janice! Glad you enjoyed this pattern! You’ll want to ask Christina from 2 Little Hooligans because she wrote this post as a guest writer for Craftaholics Anonymous. :)
Oh my goodness, this is the cutest tutorial ever! I used to make baby doll diapers when I was a little girl but they were definitely not as fancy as these. :) I’ve got to try these…thank you!
