WordPress Tutorial {for Contributors}

Hi Ladies! Skye, Linda’s assistant here! :) We are so excited to have you joining us as contributors this year! Today I’m going to show you how to set up your posts in WordPress for any of you who don’t use WP on your own sites. Don’t worry – Linda’s blog was the first time I had used WP and it is much easier than you might be expecting!

Before we start – this will make it much easier for you – make sure you have edited and resized all your images to 850px wide! It is VERY important to resize your images before you upload them – it makes load time so much faster on the blog and helps with SEO.  Please be sure that all of your images have been watermarked as well with your name and “for Craftaholics Anonymous”.

WP Tutorial 1

When you log in you will land on the dashboard – a page that will be pretty similar to this.

WP-Tutorial-2

In the right hand column, hover over “Posts” and then click on “Add New”.

WP-Tutorial-3

That will open up your editor – very similar to most blogging editors with a few extra bells and whistles thrown in. You will type in the body of your post here and add pictures. The important part of this is that we like to host all the images through the Craftaholics Anonymous WP page (better SEO for the posts!) so I’m going to show you how to add your images to your posts! Click on “Add Media”.

WP-Tutorial-4

This page will open up. Simply click on “Upload Files”

WP-Tutorial-5

Then “Select Files”

WP-Tutorial-6

And then choose the files you’d like to upload. You can upload them all at once rather than one at a time to save you a few minutes here.

WP-Tutorial-7

Once all the images have uploaded, choose the picture you want to upload. If you want to upload all the images into the post at once, make sure all the boxes are checked. If you want to add one at a time as you are writing, just check the box of the image you want to upload. When you choose the picture you will get some options on the right. Just leave all those as they are except for the last one – size. Make sure “Full Size” is selected. Since you have already sized them all at 600px, you won’t need to change them within the post! Then click “Insert into post”.

WP-Tutorial-11

To add your next image, click on “Add Media” again.

WP-Tutorial-12

Make sure “Media Library” is picked, choose the picture you want, and insert it into the post.

WP-Tutorial-8

Next, to hyperlink your text, highlight the text you want to use and click the hyperlink button.

WP-Tutorial-9

Make sure you include the “http://” when you type in the link and click on the “Open link in new window/tab” option. Click “Add Link”

WP-Tutorial-10

Once your post is finished, click on “Save Draft”! That is it!

I told you it was easy! We just wanted to make sure that we covered everything so bear with us if it seems a little too easy :). I will go back in before the posts are scheduled and proofread and add a few behind-the-scenes things, and then Linda will do a once over and add in her finishing touch as well before it publishes so if either of us see anything we can fix it really quick as well. If you have any issues or a question you can always email me (info@craftaholicsanonymous.net) and I will get back to you ASAP

Welcome to the Craftaholics Anonymous team!
