Vintage Hot Air Balloon Birthday Party

Hot Air Balloon Birthday party. Love this theme! Those hot air balloons made with paper lanterns are so awesome! #hot_air_balloons #party

Last year about this time, I was very pregnant and ready to have, what I thought, was a baby boy. We had not officially found out the gender of the baby, but I was convinced the baby was going to be our 3rd boy. After delivering the baby, I about jumped out of the stirrups when the doctor announced, It’s a girl! Davis and I were beyond surprised and completely stoked to add a little girl to our family!

Vintage Hot Air Balloon Birthday Party

Vintage Hot Air Balloon Birthday Party. Such an amazing party! Love this hot air balloons, the bunting, and the hot air balloon cake pops.

So here we are, 1 year later and you can imagine how excited I have been to plan my little girl’s 1st birthday party! It took me awhile to come up with the right theme that fit her sweet personality. Then one day I looked at her in her cute little vintage-y red and navy plaid shirt {shown below} and it hit me. A Vintage Hot Air Balloon birthday party would be a perfect fit for my laid-back, happy little baby girl! So that’s what I went with and everything just fell into place.

Hot Air Balloon 1st Birthday Party

Hot Air Balloon 1st Birthday Party. Love everything about this party!

Now Miss D’s birthday isn’t actually until the 23rd, but my good friends at Silhouette came to my house {I hear they prefer swagger wagons even on vacation… LOL} to see some of my Silhouette crafts. Plus we are literally moving 1 week after her birthday. So I decided to get everything for her party done early and do a photo shoot. That way I could get all my shots done before her official party without the stress of guests. And these pictures are from that photo shoot :)

I found this perfect basket at Target on clearance. Doesn’t it look just like a hot air balloon basket??!  Hot air balloons made from paper lanterns. Such a neat idea! Love this whole party.

One of the most stunning elements of this party, is the hot air balloons I made from paper lanterns. We hung them from the tree with fish line and they floated and danced in the breeze. It looked really neat! {I’ll post a tutorial on the lantern hot air balloons later.}chocolate cake with bunting. Love the tiny hot air balloons! One of my favorite parts of this Vintage Hot Air Balloon Party was the ginormous chocolate cake with the tiny hot air balloon bunting. {see my picture on Instagram} And yes, that lovely cake is the All-American from Costco…Apparently cake shops are rather busy the week before Mother’s Day mixed with graduation, nurses week, and other end of the school year events and weren’t taking orders. So I had to forgo the pink ruffled cake I had imagined and went with this chocolate one from Costco. BUT I honestly think it went so much better with the theme and looked so awesome! Tiny hot air balloon banner. Anything in mini version is so much cuter and this is not an exception! 1st birthday Party hat with felt ball top and gold glitter number. Love the rosette trim around the bottom!

I made this simple paper party hat for the birthday girl. I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut a card stock cone and then I added rosette trim to the bottom, a cream felt ball, and a gold glitter number 1 using Silhouette double-sided adhesive and fine gold glitter.
love me some vintage suit cases! Add in bottle soda and lace and I'm smitten.

I found this adorable blue vintage briefcase at thrift store. Add an eyelet cloth napkin and it was perfect to hold bottled sodas and paper goods. You might also recognize that blue chair from my craft room.

Ric rac pennant banner. Love the papers!  This vintage ric-rac pennant banner is another of my favorite crafts from this party. It turned out so perfect! The papers and the giant rid-rac. Perfection!

blue mason jar drinks with paper straws. Love the colors she used! And of course, we had to have blue mason jars for the drinks! Complete with striped paper straws and tiny flags cut with my Silhouette CAMEO.   Hot air balloon cake pops- cake pops stuck in brownie bites for the basket. Super easy and cute!

These are little ‘hot air balloon cake pops’ made with brownie bites for baskets. Like I said, I had issues with not being able to place an order with a cake shop, so we had to make due with pink Starbucks cake pops and brownie bites from Costco. You gotta do what you gotta do! And sometimes you have to be really creative when it comes to finding the right supplies for your party.
