Valentine Craft: Easy DIY Love Blocks

I LOVE easy crafts! The quicker, easier, and cheaper they are……the BETTER! Especially when you’re planning a craft for a group or Super Saturday. So when I was put in charge of my church’s recent craft night, I put together these Love Blocks was one of the crafts. We made this simple Valentine craft that actually doubles as a Christmas craft {the back says, “NOEL”}. They turned out fantastic and the ladies loved them!

This is a such a simple decoupaging craft that is great for beginners! The surface is small and easy to work with. I used my beloved Silhouette CAMEO to cut out white vinyl lettering. Vinyl makes crafts like this a breeze!

I added a little bakers twine and a charm to amp up the cuteness factor. You could also use ribbon or lace or something fun like that.

How to make Decoupage Wood Love Blocks

Supplies: 2×4 wood, red paint, decoupage medium, foam brushes, vinyl lettering, sander/sandpaper, scrapbooking paper, scissors/paper trimmer, sealer.

  1. Cut 2×4 into these lengths: 6″, 5″, 4″, and 3.5″. Sand edges.
  2. Paint wood red. Takes 2-3 coats. Allow to dry completely. I used a hair dryer to speed up the process. {while paint dries, you can work on Step 3}
  3. Cut chosen scrapbook paper to 3.25″ x 5.75″, 3.25″ x 3.25″, 3.25 x 3.75″, and 3.25″ x 4.75″.
  4. Using a foam brush, apply decoupage medium to one side of one block. Apply appropriately sized paper over the decoupage and press firmly to remove bubbles. Repeat with remaining 3 blocks. OPTIONAL: Once the decoupage has dried, repeat with the back side and use Christmas papers if you want to put Noel on the back.
  5. After decoupage has dried, apply another layer of decoupage medium to the top of the papers. Allow to dry.
  6. Apply vinyl lettering.
  7. Embellish with ribbon, lace, bakers twine, etc. {optional}

I don’t know about you, but I’m in the Valentine’s Day mood already! Maybe it has to do with the fact that its my birthday, but I love V-day! I hoping to get my Love Day mantel up soon. I have big plans for it! So excited! And yes, these blocks will make an appearance on my Valentine’s Day Mantel!

Happy Crafting!
