Happy Monday, crafters! I am in SHOCK that Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! How did that happen?? Well, you won’t believe me, but I started this Thanksgiving craft in August….and just barely finished it over the weekend. hehe. Life happens, right? But I think this little turkey wreath is stinkin adorable!!
Before I get started, in light of Veterans Day, I want to give a shout out to all the Veterans and active military personal AND their families. THANK YOU!!! Thank you for your sacrifice and service for our country. You are amazing! <3
Thanksgiving Craft- Turkey Wreath
I’d like you to meet, Tom, the pom pom turkey with brightly colored felt feathers! Umm, isn’t he stinkin’ ADORABLE?! And yes, he cracks me up every time I look at him! Does he make you smile?
Tom, the Turkey, is actually made from t-shirt material. {if you’d like to learn how to make a pom pom from a t-shirt, click here!} The t-shirt texture just puts Tom over on the cuteness scale, don’t ya think? That fuzzy puff of a turkey is just irresistible!
Thanksgiving Wreath tutorial
supplies: wreath form, nubby cream yarn, hot glue, felt in multiple colors, brown t-shirt or jersey material, googly eyes, scissors, rotary cutter
1. Start out by hot gluing the cream yarn around your wreath form. I used a chunky, nubby yarn that sort of reminded me of a sweater to give an awesome fall feel to the wreath.
2. Cut your felt into strips measuring 1.5″x3.5″. {see #1 above} Then fold each strip in half and snip off a triangle at the end to create a point/ {#2 above} Then fold over 1/3 at the bottom of the strip, glue in place. Then fold over the other 1/3 on top and glue in place. {see #3 above} This gives the “felt feathers” more dimension so they stand out more and add texture to your wreath.
3. Hot glue the felt features onto your yarn wreath form, varying the colors. Not shown: I cut a small rectangle piece of cardboard and hot glued it in the center of the wreath form. Then I filled in the center of the wreath form by gluing feathers onto the cardboard.
4. Make a t-shirt pom pom using an old tee or else jersey material. I wrapped the pom pom strings around the wreath and then hot glued in a couple places to secure the pom pom.
5. Hot glue the googly eyes onto the pom pom.
6. Cut a “beak”, “turkey legs”, and “beak comb” out of appropriate colored felt. Then glue in place.
And there you have a cute turkey wreath to greet your guests this Thanksgiving! Isn’t that a fun Thanksgiving craft? I love how the yarn reminds me of a sweater. So fall-ish! And the colors are muted and perfect. Loving my new fall wreath!
What Thanksgiving Crafts are you working on? Or do you just jump straight to Christmas crafts?
happy crafting!
