Small Craft Room

Hi everyone, my name is Vanessa Brady and I blog over at Tried & True. Like most of you, I am a craft fanatic and have tons of craft supplies to prove it. I wish this was one of those gorgeous craft room tours where I had tons of space to store scrapbook papers, large punches and craft paint for miles, but since I live in a small house built in the 30’s, that just isn’t the case. Instead, I’d like to welcome you to my Teeny Tiny Craft Room Tour!

tiny craft space off the kitchen

When we moved in about 6 years ago, there was a small room off of the kitchen that was kind of wasted space. We added wall-to-wall shelves on the right side of the room as a pantry to store food and kitchen appliances, but were kind of at a loss at what to do with the left side. When my personal blog became more of a business, it quickly became apparent that I was going to need a permanent space to work and store supplies.

The yellow bench was already there so all we had to do was add some risers and a wood sheet cut to size to make the large table. Because of the risers, there’s storage space underneath the table as well as some just to the right of it. There are two small cabinets I use to store Silhouette supplies and We R Memory Keeper materials. My sewing machine is at my feet and, as with all my machines, is pulled out when I need to use it. I dream of having the kind of space that lets me leave machines out on their own tables but until then, the old switcheroo works just fine.

how to organize small craft space

To the left of my craft table, I have a piece of lattice hanging on the wall to help organize markers, string, washi tape, and paintbrushes. Since every inch of my Teeny Tiny Craft Room is used for storage, I don’t have a whole lot of space to display art just for beauty’s sake. I like how this display is organized and neat but still appealing because of all the coordinating colors. I even have a little space to hang “My Happy Place” clipboard! I recently added a bathroom corner shelf unit to utilize even more wasted space. I’ve got to use every inch I can!

To the right of my desk, I hung a thrifted set of shelves that I spray painted silver to update a bit. I use them to store some of the supplies that I reach for the most like paint, Mod Podge, and alcohol markers. I also keep a few of my favorite craft projects that I can’t seem to throw away (or give away for that matter!) like my Sewing Kit Matryoshka, “A Cup of Tea” Customizable Art, Citrus Vinegar Cleaner and my plastic canvas Robot Desk Organizer I made for Crafts Unleashed. There’s even a little room for some geeky Dr. Who love!

No craft room would be complete without the obligatory pegboard storage shot, right? I store more often-used products on the back of the door leading to my laundry room. Things like scissors, hot glue gun, adhesives, stickers, punches, and glitter are stored here. Some of the baskets are made for pegboard use and others are things that I found in the dollar section of Target. Gotta love that section!

I’ve also taken over a couple walls in the laundry room to store even more craft supplies. These adjustable Ikea shelves and baskets are easy to shift and move according to my needs. I’m thinking of moving our bee suits (read about our Beekeeping adventures!) to the outside shed and utilizing that space for my growing scrapbook paper collection. My husband doesn’t know about that yet so let’s just keep that on the DL, okay?

The last section of craft storage is relatively new and unused still. We recently had a bunch of old dog supplies and toys hanging here and found a better place for them in the garage so I quickly grabbed this space for more craft goodness! Not too sure what I’ll use it for but I’m sure something will come to me.

So, there you go, that’s my Teeny Tiny Craft Room! It’s not a lot, but it definitely is better than nothing. The only real issue I have with working in the pantry is that I’m constantly snacking on food while working and that’s having some serious repercussions on my belt line. Hope you enjoyed the tour and maybe even got a few ideas on working with tight spaces. Happy crafting! tried and true craft room
