Sharing the Joy this Holiday season

The holidays are such a special time of year. Our family has many wonderful traditions that we do this time of year that bring us much joy and happiness. One of our favorite traditions is to find a special way to give to those in need. It brings me a lot of joy to help others!

gift basket

I was given the opportunity to buy a gift basket full of goodies from World Market to donate to the shelter of my choice. This was a fun challenge for me because I LOVE shopping for others! I had so much fun packing my shopping cart full of goodies and know it would go to someone in need.

I decided to go with a bathroom/hygiene theme for the gift basket. {in case the rubber ducky didn’t give that away already!} I know if I was in a shelter, I would appreciate a clean towel and yummy smelling soaps. Feeling clean always gives me a better out look on life, so I thought it might help those at the shelter. I bought towels, soap, shampoo, lotion, bath rug, shower curtain liner, pumice stone, a small picture frame, and a rubber ducky.

World Market has all kinds of fun hygiene goodies with soaps from around the world, colorful towels, and gorgeous shower curtains. I took advantage of the sale items and used a 10% off my entire purchase coupon to make the money go farther for the shelter.

If you haven’t been to World Market’s packaging section, you have to go! They have loads of fun crinkly paper, colorful raffia, cellophane, string, and other fun goodies.

They also have gorgeous wrapping paper! Love the floral print and pretty colors! I could have some serious fun crafting with it!

After I finished shopping, I organized the basket so it displayed all the items nicely. It’s now ready to donate!

We decided to donate to an organization called, Christian Outreach. They provide not only shelters, but help those in need with food, medical appointments, utility bills, and housing needs. Basically, they help with anything but clothing. Christian Outreach serves our entire county, so they are always needing donations.

When I contacted Christian Outreach to set up a time to deliver the gift basket, they told me they had a food drive going on that morning at the fire station near our home. So Davis and I packed up the boys and rushed over to the fire station to drop off the gift basket along with some food from our pantry for the food drive.

The gentleman over the food drive {who I later found out was a volunteer firefighter} asked me if the boys would like a tour of the fire station. I thought that was so sweet of him! We were there to just deliver the basket, so this was a huge bonus for the boys! They were in heaven climbing in and out of the fire trucks and learning more about their equipment. It turned out to be a very memorable experience! I hope my boys remember how giving is fun and the happiness it brings. I know I left the fire station feeling a little warmer inside.
