Mother’s Day Printable

by: Amy

Hello, Craftaholics Friends!  I’m excited to be here today sharing a fun gift idea for Mother’s Day.  I feel so blessed to have a wonderful mother and mother-in-law who are awesome examples for me and my children.  They are mentors and friends to me in addition to being mothers and grandmothers, and I am so grateful to have them in my life.  I came across this quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald a while ago and it immediately made me think of these special women in my life:

“You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known —
and even that is an understatement.”

I decided to make a pretty, feminine Mother’s Day printable for all of you who have lovely, tender, beautiful women to honor this year, too.  You can simply print and frame the image, but to make an extra special gift, transfer the image onto a canvas.  The process is really easy, but the results look like a million bucks!

You will need:

Begin by printing the image you would like to use {available here in Pink background, Teal background, and Green background } in reverse.   Note: The step-by-step photos show the green background and the finished photos show the teal background, to give you an idea of what they look like.  Added later: The typo {loveliest} has been fixed on the printable version! Every printer is a little bit different, but on mine, after I click print a dialog box opens up with printer options.  Just make sure there is a check in the box next to “mirror image” and it will print out backwards.  Then take it to your local copy center and ask for a full-color copy of the reversed image.  This is an important step!  For the image transfer medium to work you have to use a color copy, not an ink-jet print.

You can save yourself some ink by saving the image on a thumb drive and taking that to the copy center and asking for a full-color print in reverse.  Cut out the image, leaving a thin white border around all the edges as shown above.

Lay the image color-side up on top of a sheet of wax paper {to protect your table} and paint a fairly thick layer of Mod Podge image transfer medium on top with a foam brush.  It should be thick enough that you can’t see the image through it.  Make sure to get it all the way to the edges of your image.

Flip the image over onto your canvas, glue-side down.  I love these burlap and gesso canvases that can be purchased at Hobby Lobby right now, but a plain white canvas would also work.  Center the image on the canvas and gently press it down with a soft cloth to remove all wrinkles and air bubbles.  Make sure the image is completely adhered to the canvas and gently wipe away any excess image transfer medium that oozes out the edges.  Let it sit for 24 hours while the image transfer medium dries.  {If you’re anything like me, that will be the longest 24 hours of your life as you’re dying to see how it turns out!}

Once the 24 hours have passed, take a soft, wet rag and dampen the image.  Rub it very gently with the rag until the paper balls up and pulls away, leaving the image behind.  It’s almost like magic!  Be patient and rub gently to avoid rubbing the image off along with the paper.   If you rub a little too hard, you could use a fine-tipped Sharpie to carefully fill in the lettering where it got rubbed away.  Let me apologize right here for the typo on the image in the step-by-step photographs.  Rest assured, I have corrected it and the images you download and print have all the correct spelling, as seen below.  It’s been one of those weeks, friends.

To finish it, either pop it into a frame or hot glue some coordinating ribbon around the edges and tie a bow at the top like I did here.  I love the end result so much, I can’t wait to wrap them up and send them to my special moms! Have a beautiful Mother’s Day, everyone!
