monogram vase using faux glass etching technique TUTORIAL

happy monday, crafters! are you ready to start the week off with a new craft using a *brand new product*? {please say yes} well, i’m excited to share with you my latest addition to my craft supply arsenal….all kinds of goodies from the Martha Stewart’s new Decorative Craft Paint line by Plaid Crafts! let me tell you, this NEW line of crafts is amazing. sooooo many awesome tools, paints, and stencils to make your crafty little hearts go pitter patter! there are 160 paint colors in 5 different finishes. oh and the paint is formulated to work on all crafting surfaces including wood, metal, glass, ceramic, terra-cotta and fabric.

i made that gorgeous monogrammed glass vase using the new Frost Etching Effect paint.  i loved that i got the glass etched look without using strong chemicals. plus it is so much more forgiving. {as you’ll see in a second, i definitely needed a forgiving product!!}

Supplies: Martha Stewart Crafts Italic Flourish Stencil Set, Martha Stewart Crafts Frost Etching Effect, Martha Stewart Crafts Stencil Brush Set, masking/painting tape {not shown} and….

a glass vase.

{big shout out to our friends, Audrey and Jay for giving us the lovely flowers & vase!! this craft would not have been possible without you.}

1. first, roll the Frost Etch Effect on a flat surface to mix well.

2. tape your stencil in place. using a Stencil Brush, lightly brush on a thin coat of the Frost Etch Effect. {TIP: the Frost Etch Effect can be tinted by adding a little paint}

3. remove stencil.

as you can see, i didn’t do a very good job brushing the Frost Etch Effect only in the stencil…..i got a few extra blobs. oops. BUT the beauty of using the Frost Etch Effect paint VS. real Glass Etching is the Frost Etch paint is so forgiving! {phew} i simply used a damp cotton swab to wipe away the excess blobs while it was still wet. worked like a charm. {ok, so i used my finger nail as well. BUT the point is, i could easily fix my mistake. if i’d used the chemical glass etch, i would have ruined my vase. just sayin.}

here is my faux etched monogram all cleaned up. much better.

and because i know you’re wondering {i was too} this paint is dishwasher safe on glass. so when you need to give that faux etched vase a good cleaning, go ahead and pop it into the dishwasher.

4. after your Frost Etch Effect is dry, add flowers, twigs, rocks, etc to your lovely monogrammed vase.

Gift Idea: wrap in pretty paper and give as a wedding, thinking of you, or even a house warming gift!

you can find the new Martha Stewart Crafts Decorative Paint line only at Michaels stores in the US and Canada. some Michaels stores already have the line in stock, others won’t have it available until the last week of August. so you’ll have to check with your local Michaels store.
