Headboard Makeover with Silhouette CAMEO

Cheap, easy way to update a headboard- simply add a vinyl design!
Headboard Makeover with Silhouette CAMEO

You guys, I am soooo excited to show off my latest headboard makeover! I did this a few months ago, but with the move and all that craziness, I am just now getting around to posting about it! These pictures were taken in our old house, so whenever I get the new house decorated {yes, it just might take years}, I’ll probably show it off again in its new setting.

But I have to say, I absolutely love my Silhouette CAMEO and how it makes it possible for me to create the things I dream up in my head. This project was one of those projects that turned out even better than what I imagined! {no, that does NOT always happen. Trust me!!}

Our Old Black Bed Frame

Our bed has quite the story behind it! Davis and I have changed and redone our bed and headboard several times. I think this is like the 3rd or 4th time we’ve changed it somehow. I guess you could call it a work in progress! Rather than buy a new one, we just change the one we have.

When we bought our old black bed about 8 years ago, it had a canopy top. Which was fun and all the rage back then. But our first home was tiny and the canopy ate up the entire master bedroom. So we removed the canopy, shortened the posts, and turned the top railings of the canopy into shelves for our Dining Room and my Craft Room. Then after that, I used my Silhouette to cut out a scroll work design in white vinyl and put it on the headboard. You may remember when I originally did this to my headboard a few years ago:

headboard makeover I loved the design, but over the years, some of the vinyl peeled away and my bedroom decor and comforter changed a few times. So it was time for a new design for my headboard. This time I decided to go more modern and trendy and put plus signs on my headboard.

Because I know everyone is going to ask, most of the decor/bedding was purchased at Target. And yes, I am slightly addicted to that store!

Here is the Before and After shots:

headboard-before-afterI could not have done this project without my Silhouette CAMEO + Designer Software. My CAMO rocks! I love how I can design things and turn them into a reality. If you’ve been considering a CAMEO, just do it! That amazing little tool is life changing.

And the Designer Software is awesome! Its the best designing software out there for digital cutting tools. There are so many tools and capabilities that it can do. I am constantly learning new tools and tricks that the software can do. I like to watch videos on Silhouette’s Youtube channel to learn new things about my Cameo. You can find loads of great tutorials and helpful videos on their youtube channel….. And there just might be a video of me and this headboard on there…. Check it out!

Plus Sign Headboard

Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 2.46.19 PMThis is a quick screen shot while I was designing my headboard. I was playing around with possibly doing different colored plus signs. So I was adding fill colors to the shapes to see how it looked. I ended up deciding to do just one color of vinyl, but thanks to the Designer Edition, I could get an idea of what it would look like with different options.

headboard-makeover-with-silhouette-cameo So that’s my headboard makeover. A roll of vinyl + my Silhouette Cameo was all I needed! Its so easy to redo and cost only a few dollars!

Don’t forget! TODAY is the last day to get 40% off Silhouette Designed Edition Software and Bundles! Click here check it out.
