Anchor Pillow
I’ll be the first to admit that I am a last minute holiday decorating person. I often “wish” that I had decorated for a holiday when the day rolls around. Knowing that I can’t be alone, this tutorial for a fast nautical inspired pillow will take away any excuses for adding festive holiday decor for your upcoming 4th of July get together.
Pillow Tutorial
Supplies
- 3/4 yd main pillow fabric
- 3/4 yd cotton batting
- 1, 11″ x 10″ fabric piece for anchor
- 1, 11″ x 10″ piece of heat n’ bond
- 3 strips 2.25″ x width of fabric for binding
- Anchor template {click here to download the free Anchor Template}
Cutting Instructions
Cut 1, 19″ x 19″ piece of your main pillow fabric for the top.
Cut 2, 12″ x 19″ pieces from the main pillow fabric for the back
Making the Pillow Front
Following the instructions for the Heat n’ Bond, iron it to the back of your 11″ x 10″ piece of fabric. Using your anchor template, trace it to the paper backing.
Once your anchor is cut out, place it onto the corner of your main pillow front, 2.5″ inches from the bottom and 2.5″ inches from the right side. Peel away the backing and iron in place. Then, place your pillow front on top of your piece of cotton batting and sew around the edges of the anchor and quilt the top of your pillow as desired.
Making the Envelope Back
Using a hot iron, fold over one of the long 19″ sides a 1/2″ and then another 1/2″ to create a finished edge, sew down the center of the fold. Repeat on second back panel.
Finishing The Pillow
Place the pillow front face down with both back panels right sides up on the back. Pin in place. Create binding strips using your preferred method.
Since I wanted to get these pillows finished fast, I sewed my binding on by machine. So, I sewed it to the back of the pillow and folded it around to the front to sew in place.
So that’s it. 30 minutes later you have a cute and festive pillow ready to party!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Happy crafting,
Christen
