Easter Craft
Hi everyone! Jessica the Sewing Rabbit here. I am so happy to be back again showing you a quick and fun sewing tutorial to help you get ready for Spring!
Burlap is one of my favorite textiles to work with. There is something so fun about the texture of this fabulous fabric! Pair that with one of this season’s hottest trends – metallics, and you have a winning combination.
I simply adore these burlap and metallic totes! They are just whats needed to help lift the winter duldrums. Take them with you to the Farmer’s Market to stock up on your fruits and veggies, and when the weather gets warmer, they will be perfect for hitting the beach. The sand will fall right through the tiny holes in the burlap. Making them awesome beach bags!
Wherever you choose to go with them, people will definitely be asking where you got them. Its up to you if you want to tell them just how simple they are to make…
For materials you will need:
- 1/2 yard burlap fabric
- 40″ Cotton Webbing
- Basic Sewing essentials
How to Sew Burlap Tote:
And you are done!
A fun and easy tote bag to help you get ready for Spring…
I couldn’t help myself and made a bunch of them. What can I say? Fabric is my weakness, especially when it comes in these awesome colors!
Happy Sewing!
Jessica

These are super cute! Love the colors.
Thank you so much Heather!
Super adorable! Love the colors you chose.
Thank you Gina!
Thanks for the super simple craft. I have a question, can the foil be cut with a cricut or other cutting machine?
I personally used the old fashioned method of pen and scissors, but I believe Cricut and Silhouette both sell foil now that is compatible with their machines. Great question!
Where can I purchase the iron on foil?
I did a Google Search for ‘iron-on metallic foil’ and amazon produced some great products.
Personally, I ordered these:

(not an affiliate link)
This link leads to a foil transfer that requires a heat press.
Super cute idea. I haven’t seen that foil before, so thanks for sharing.
Thank you Karen, I am so happy that you like it!

I have been putting off learning to sew for quite some time and this tutorial gave me the push I needed! I am a HUGE lover of anything burlap and I am absolutely in love with these cute totes! Where did you get your colored burlap from? I’ve searched around online and found the green and pink but I cannot find that beautiful purple (my fave). Thank you for this great tutorial!
Hi Jessica!
I found these colored burlap fabric rolls at my local fabric store in the home decor fabric section. I have seen them at both Jo-Anns and Hancock!
Hope this helps!

I love this! Did you have any issues with the foil wrinkling after application?
None at all actually. It was a total gamble as I had never worked with it before, but I was really impressed with how fantastic all 3 of them came out. I don’t know how easy they are to wash up – I would probably wash on a cold very gentle cycle and hang dry. Thanks!
Thank you so much, great tutorial! These bags are so cute!
Thank you so much Vivika!
do you use a normal needle when sewing through the webbing?
Great question! I recommend a heavy weight needle for sewing through the webbing. 100 / 16
Where did you get the nice colored burlap?
I just ordered some pretty colors from a place called http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/. Hope this helps!
Is that golden foil for hot stamping?
