Little Miss D turned 2 over the weekend. Crazy, right?!! My little girl is growing right up! For her birthday, I whipped up the CUTEST Pillow Case dress ever! I used one of the brand new Little Dress Boutique pre-cut dress kits that is premiering in Jo-Ann right now. Let me tell you, it was the easiest dress to make ever!
Handmade Pillowcase Dress
I used the Little Dress Boutique’s Sophia collection to create Miss D’s outfit. I loved how quick and easy this pillowcase dress was to sew and personalize to fit my daughter’s personality and my taste. These are the customizations I did:
- Chopped off the bottom of the pre-cut dress for 2 reasons. 1. So that it would be the correct length of her and 2. So that I could add a thick strip of coordinating Sophia pink fabric for a dramatic, yet feminine color-block look.
- Topstitched crocheted lace above the pink strip to soften the look. {I had the lace on hand} I love how it flows with the vintage-y feel of the floral Sophia fabric.
- Sewed one longer and thicker strip of fabric for the neckline so that I could tie a bit, fat bow by her shoulder.
- Made a coordinating bow for her hair.
I think it turned out stunning! I absolutely love it. And so did she!
She ran around the yard in it playing with bubbles with her older brothers. She looked like such a little doll!
I had fun playing with the coordinating pre-cut fabrics to make her a coordinating bow. But you could also make small bags, pockets, flowers, headbands, fabric necklaces, ruffles, and lots more. They make it so easy to make the basic dress and then give you the opportunity to completely personalize it however you want and make coordinating accessories. Its quite brilliant, if you ask me.
And here’s my little sweetie sampling sprinkles off her birthday cake…..
She loves sprinkles! {ok, who doesn’t?!!}
I thoroughly enjoyed sewing this dress. Check out my Instagram of the process.
