Craftaholic of the Month- January

i am starting something new this year, i’ll be *spotlighting a craftaholic each month* and doing a mini “therapy” session with them….or you could just call it an interview! hehe
{if you are interested in being considered for Craftaholic of the Month feature, sign up here.}

January’s Craftaholic of the Month is Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary. Krystal is a sweet girl with a pretty blog {did ya see her lovely header?} and awesome crafts! she has several great tutorials and lots of inspiration! Krystal loves design and has a 4 year degree in Interior Design. {wish i’d studied that. business was so bor*ing} here’s a quick interview with Krystal. after answering my drilling questions, she agreed that this was a lot like a therapy session! lol

1.  What drove you to your crafting addiction?

I’ve always been a creative person, but I’m also a planner.  I had a plan- education, family, and then career.  I went to school and earned my bachelor’s degree in Interior Design because I’m a little (okay a lot) obsessed with houses. I graduated and moved home to start my family.  Well two kids and several years later I found myself very depressed.  I had one of those “who am I” moments and realized my only identity was a run down mom of two toddlers.  I decided that had to change.  I am happiest when I’m creating so I made being creative a priority in my life.  Crafting (and blogging about it) is the one thing I do for me.  Whether a glamorous design career is in the future for me or not, crafting will always be a big part of what makes me tick.

2.  Roughly how many hours a week do you craft?

It really varies.  I have a bit of an extreme personality and tend to do things in extremes.  Meaning I may craft and create like crazy one week and then nothing for a few weeks after.  I also started doing blog designs so I spend a lot of time designing graphically.  I think graphic design is a strong point for me and hope to do more of it and have more printables available on my blog this year.  Did that answer the question?  If not then the answer is too many!

3.   What would you tell other addicts out there that are facing your same crafting issues?

My two biggest issues are that sometimes things don’t come out the way they look in my head.  But that’s okay. I have had several crafts end up straight in the trash but also some that end up better then even I could have guessed.  So don’t worry about it.  My other issue is finding time to get things done and still be a good mother to my children.  While I’m still learning to balance everything, I’m really trying to learn how to walk away from a project and put my kids first.  They are only going to be little once.  I also use nap time to its fullest.

4.  If you were one of your crafts, which one would you be?

What a hard question! I guess I would have to say I’m my mantle shelf that my hubby and I recently made.  Just like it changes with every holiday and season.  I’m always changing.  I am always trying to learn new things and figure out ways that I can improve as a crafter, a blogger, a designer, and a mother.

5.  If you go for a long period without crafting, what happens to you?

I get sad.  I don’t know how else to put it.  Like I said before crafting is the one thing I do for myself and 90% of the things I make are things for me.  I’m a selfish crafter and totally fine with that.  Crafting keeps me sane.

Addiction Evidence
so i took a tour of Krystal darling blog, and i’ve determined that she is definitely a Craftaholic! here’s some projects i found that support this finding:

thanks for playing Krystal! you truly are one talented Craftaholic! thank you for being my very first Craftaholic of the Month! :)
Linda
Hi! I'm Linda, the craft addict behind Craftaholics Anonymous®, a craft blog. Crafting is cheaper than therapy, right? When I'm not DIYing something, I can be found taxiing around our 4 crazy kids or working out. Or shoe shopping... because you can never have too many shoes! Happy crafting! ♥
