Happy happy Friday!! Today Kendra is here to show off her great craft room makeover! enjoy! -Linda
Hi! My name is Kendra and I blog over at Adventures of Brad & Kendra.
I’m so happy to be sharing my craft room with you today. I started this blog as a creative outlet for my very techy lifestyle. Brad and I have been married for 6 years, he owns a small tech support company in Seattle and I am an electrical engineer. I started getting my creative juices flowing after joining Pinterest last summer, and becoming instantly addicted.
My craft room is the spare bedroom that used to be the catch-all room. Every year, Christmas gifts and wrapping would explode in this room and it never quite seemed to get 100% cleaned up.
The Before
I spent a good amount of time clearing out the room of extra stuff and re-organizing it. The piece of furniture below is the Epxedit from Ikea (I’m pretty addicted to the Expedit series, I have 4 or 5 of them in my house). The boxes in each cube are simply banker boxes covered in fabric. I used the top for my Silhouette Cameo and miscellaneous tools. I cut out chalkboard labels for each of the boxes so that I can change what is in each box if needed.
Craft Room After
My dad built my desk a couple years ago as a Christmas gift. It is perfect for crafts and has lots of storage. I especially love the built in racks that can hold 12×12 paper, I use them to store projects that are in process. The chair and slipcover are from Pier 1. I love the pattern and think it ties in great with the fabric used on the banker boxes.
I replaced the closet doors with a couple curtains from Target. The closet doors were NOT practical since you could only see one half or the other but anything in the middle was hard to access. Inside the closet I have some gift wrap storage, gift stockpile and a few purses (I have a thing for purses and started moving them out of the craft room and into my bedroom on a coat rack that I re-purposed). All the cardboard boxes are cabinet doors that I bought at an Ikea garage sale for $1 each and have used for projects such as welcome signs and necklace holders.
Here is the final view of what I see when I walk into my new craft room. I hope you have all enjoyed the tour of my craft room.
Thanks Kendra! You did a great job! Love your fabric covered bankers box idea. Thanks for sharing! You can visit Kendra’s blog here.
happy crafting,
linda

Love those fabric covered boxes and the fabric on the chair is great too!
Forgive me…what are banker boxes? I am also addicted to ikea shelves and they seem PERFECT!!! where did you get them? …Fantastic job!!
Bankers boxes are just cardboard boxes. Staples has them free after rewards at last once a year. http://www.staples.com/Bankers-Box-File-Storage-Boxes/cat_CL165728
Banker boxes are heavy duty boxes generally found at office supply stores. I think their traditional usage is for keeping records and then filing it away in storage. I bought mine at Costco. The pack of 10 was about $15.
fabric wrap bankers boxes – brilliant! i got a bunch of them when they were free at staples and they are practical but not pretty. this is the perfect solution to that problem. how did you attach the fabric? spray glue? i also have and love the Epxedit bookcase! we lay it the same way and i have beautiful container store bins in it and we use it as a TV stand in the living room and all the bins house the tech gear we don’t want to see like video games and cords. glad i’m not the only one who realized how practical it is on it’s side! love this post!!
I used a glue gun to attach all the fabric. I have used spray adhesive in the past but I do a lot better with a glue gun. I also learned that thicker fabric that doesn’t have a lot of white works better.
I’ve also seen on pinterest where they’ve used the decorative duct tape to cover ‘ugly’ boxes… it looked really cute ~ bright and fun!
I love those boxes! I just got some super cute chevron duct tape to cover some boxes from work. Can’t wait to make those cute :)
It looks amazing. I love the boxes and your chair. Feeling inspired to do something with my space now!
I really like the fabric covered banker boxes.
You should do a video on how to do this on YouTube.
Very clever and attractive idea.
Fabulous results!
Your room turned out great and those boxes are very pretty. I like your hanging stars. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! The hanging stars are lights that I received as gifts. Unfortunately, I have an irrational fear of fire and so I don’t turn them on very often because I’m always worried that the lightbulb is going to burn the paper.
love your room- i heart the banker boxes covered in fabric! wowzie! what a clever idea.

Fantastic! I love the boxes, that is a great idea. What a money saver! I posted about them on my blog today, and sent my readers here for more info. http://ninered.blogspot.com/2012/09/how-to-fabric-bankers-boxes.html
Awesome post, as usual!
I was curious, do you have an idea of how much fabric you needed to cover the 8 boxes. I know you have 4 kinds of fabric so how much of each did you buy?
I am about to do this EXACT same thing in my craft room and wanted to have a good shopping list for when I hit up Hobby Lobby!
I am a school nurse with 700 pre-K to 4th grade students. I have bankers boxes that I use to store extra clothes for “accidents”. I would love to cover my boxes so my office would be more inviting to the students, parents, and staff. I LOVE the bankers boxes but they are BLAND. Do you have measurements and/or directions for how you did your BEAUTIFUL boxes????
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Denise
