Boys Room Makeover

We moved into this house almost 2 years ago and … I still have not decorated either of my two boys’ rooms! Ugh. The nasty flat contractor paint has stared me in the face for too long. So, I am happy to say that I’m working on decorating it right now with the help of Sherwin-Williams. Yay! It’s probably a good thing that I waited to decorate it though since Baby #3 is on the way, and we are going to move my youngest little guy in with the oldest. They will be sharing a bedroom, and decorating the room and making it fun will hopefully ease this transition for them. Want to see the room I’m working with? Here it is!

boys room

{I got so motivated to get going on this room that I put the paint tape up before I could take a before picture! Oops. So ignore the green painters tape.}  This is the room that my oldest, Gavin, current uses. He has the biggest room, so we decided to put the two in there. Gavin has outgrown his toddler bed and is ready for a real “big boy bed,” aka, a twin bed. So I am on the lookout for a pair of white twin beds for their shared room.

Theme: Both boys are obsessed with helicopters and airplanes. Living in a military area has only fed this obsession. So I want to do an airplane and helicopter-themed room for them. I’ll cut out vinyl motifs with my digital die cutting tool, frame cool pictures of airplanes that I’ve been saving, and possibly hang airplanes and helicopters from the ceiling. I’d like to incorporate stripes either on the wall or on the new bedding.

Colors: Blue. Definitely blue! It’s their favorite color. Since they are little and love lots of color, I want to have orange and green as accent colors.

Challenges: The window is not centered in the room. Not even close! And, making sure that each boy feels like its their room by personalizing it for them.

 color visualizer

So, first things first, I went to the Sherwin-Williams website to help pick out paint colors. I used this really cool color selection tool called the Color Visualizer. I was able to upload my “before” picture of the room and try out different paint colors in the room. You can upload your own room images or choose one of their sample scenes, and virtually paint your own interior or exterior. You can also explore color options and visualize your finished space, no masking required. I thought that was pretty neat! The Color Visualizer was easy to use and only took a couple of minutes. The colors I picked were from the HGTV® HOME by SherwinWilliams collection: Blissful Blue and Distance.

So that’s the beginning stages of the boys’ room makeover! I’m so excited to finish it up and show it off. I think they will love it! Thanks for stopping by today! Happy crafting, Linda.
