Bow Cuff Bracelet from a Purse

Happy Monday! I tell ya, these Mondays sure come quick, don’t they?Well, I don’t know about you, but I have waaay too many old handbags just laying around. I love cute bags! They *magically* find rides home with me from the store. haha.

So I was going through my collection of purses and bags to see which ones I could donate or revamp…..and instead, made this bow cuff….

one of my bags {i’ll show you in a second} had a large “knot” on it that had gotten bent and the knot always seemed like it was too big for the bag or something.

basically, it bugged me.

so instead of donating it to the thrift store, I decided to see if I could take apart the knot and create something fun with it.

Very simple, but the color is rad. oh, and bows are pretty trendy, so this kinda rocks my world. ha!

How to Make a Bow Cuff Bracelet

upcycled purse craft

  1. This is the knot on the bag. I don’t know why, but the knot always bugged me. So off it came!
  2. I used a seam ripper to detach it from the bag. the piece was about 18 inches long. so plenty of length to work with.
  3. I cut off an 8″ piece, keeping one side that was already finished. bow cuff
  4. I folded over about 1/4″ on the side where I cut and sewed across it to finish the edge. {luckily i had thread that matched the color!}
  5. Then in the middle, I made 2 pleats {think the shape of an M}
  6. And stitched across to hold in place. {I had to help feed the material through a little because of the plasticy material}DIY bow cuff
  7. With the extra length, I cut a piece to 3″ long by 1.25″ side. Folded over the edges about 1/4″ and sewed in place.
  8. I then wrapped it around the center.
  9. Put some E6000 on it and then a clip to hold it in place and let it dry.
  10. {forgot to take a pic. sorry} I sewed a small rectangle of velcro on the 2 ends of the cuff. You could use a snap or two instead.

simple cuffSuper easy and simple. But so stylin!
