zipper flip flops

this year for mother’s day, i was in the mood to make something fun for my mom. my mom is a fun lovin’ gal, so i thought these cool flip flops would make her day. i made “zipper star flowers” and put them on flip flops. if i wasn’t living on a student budget, i’d totally get her a gift card for a pedicure to go with these cuties. that would really complete the gift.
if you’re not into the flip flop idea for your mother’s day, you could easily make these zipper star flowers into a brooch pin for her jacket or a clip that she could clip onto her handbag or purse.
zipper star flowers
Supplies
  • 12-14 inch zipper
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • rhinestone, pearl, jewel, etc for the center
  • flip flops (optional)
  • flip flop glue or other very strong adhesive (optional)
first separate your zipper removing the pull and stopper.
next, make a loop with the zipper teeth on the outside.
make a second loop opposite the first loop and glue in place. be sure to keep loops the same size. {easier said than done, i know}
make two more loops opposite of each other.
then make your fifth and final loop.
cut off the excess zipper and glue your rhinestone onto the center.
*if you want to turn this into a pin or clip, hot glue a piece a felt to the back and then attach your pin or clip.*
to attach them to flip flops like i did, i found this cool “flip flop glue” at the craft store for a few dollars.
i put a little circle of the glue on the back of the flower and put it on the flip flop. i used a clip to hold the flower in place while it dried.
it took about an hour for the glue to dry, but it did a good job.
ta-da! cute flips flops!
wrap ‘em up with some pretty ribbon and you’ve got yourself a great mother’s day gift :)
