Spring Quote with Watercolor Flowers

I am definitely looking forward to spring! We had a snow flurry today after enjoying 80 degree weather last week. gah! So ready for nice weather! So for this month’s Canon post, I decided to add some pretty pink watercolor flowers to a spring quote from Lady Bird Johnson. It took me several tries to get the watercolor just right, and I am really proud of how it turned out!

Watercolor is not something I have a lot of experience with, but I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s as good as therapy for me. ha! I got some great advice on Instagram which helped a ton, but I still have a lot to learn about watercolor.

I used photoshop to design the quote and then printed it off on watercolor paper with my Canon.  The TS6020 did a fabulous job printing on watercolor paper! I used the back feed option on my printer {the TS printers all have both a cassette for daily plain paper and a back feed, which is really handy for crafting!} and the thick watercolor paper goes through perfectly.

Here’s a close up of my watercolor flowers. I tried to make them look like pink peonies. Not sure if I achieved that or not, but I’ll call them watercolor pink peonies anyways :)

How to Print on Watercolor Paper

  1. First I trimmed down my watercolor paper to 8.5×11. {the watercolor paper pad I used was 9×12, so I didn’t have to cut much off}

2. Then I changed my Canon TS6020 Printer print settings to: Rear Feed, Best Quality, Matte Paper and hit print. This printer handled that watercolor paper like a boss! That back feed option really helps with printing on different materials.

Then I had fun using my watercolor paints to illustrate the Lady Bird Johnson quote.

Honestly, it took me a few drafts to get my watercolor flowers and leaves just right. I definitely learned by trial and error! But thank goodness I could count on my TS6020 printer to come through each time I needed to reprint the quote. In case you don’t know, watercolor paper is thick, textured, and very absorbent.
