Want to see what I made with my Heat Transfer Start Kit…….
This little guy LOVES his new helicopter t-shirt I made for him using my Silhouette CAMEO and fuzzy white Heat Transfer! As in he was the happiest little boy on the block. He’s OBSESSED with fans and helicopters. {if you know him, that’s not an exaggeration at all} The kid can spot anything that even resembles a fan a mile away. no joke.
With our close proximity to several military bases, we have helicopters fly over our home multiple times a day. And when he hears one, he dashes to the window….. and waves at each one he sees.
And then I get full report on how many “fans” the helicopter had and what colors it was.
Yes, he is obsessed.
What is a Silhouette CAMEO?
The Silhouette CAMEO® is an electronic cutting tool for personal use. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac® with a simple USB cable. However, instead of printing it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric, magnet sheets and more up to 12″ wide and 10 feet long. The machine also boasts a quiet motor and the ability to register and cut printed materials.
What’s in the Heat Transfer Starter Kit?
- 3 sheets of smooth heat transfer material (9″ x 12″ of black, teal, dark pink)
- 2 sheets of flocked heat transfer material (9″ x 12″ of white and yellow)
- Silhouette hook {very handy tool!}
- exclusive download card good for 10 heat transfer designs
- idea booklet and instruction guide
- instructional DVD
I have to say, that is one stinkin’ cute shirt, if I ever saw one!
How to Use Silhouette Heat Transfer
Create your design using the Silhouette Studio software like you normally do. Then select your entire design, right click, and select “Flip Horizontally”. This flips the image so that it cuts backwards but will transfer to read correctly.
When you’re ready to cut your design, load your CAMEO making sure the rollers are in the proper place for the size of your heat transfer.
- Make sure to load the Heat Transfer with Shiny side down. Cut your design using the preset settings for the type of Heat Transfer you are using. {I used the Fuzzy Heat Transfer setting}
- Remove the extra material around your design.
- The hook is really handy when picking out the small pieces from heat transfer lettering. It makes “weeding” a breeze! {this tool comes in the Heat Transfer starter kit}
- Place your design onto your shirt {shiny side up} and center it.
- Place a ironing cloth on top of your design. {I used a small piece of scrap muslin.}
- Press firmly down and iron for 45-60 seconds. {I do 60 seconds usually. sometimes more}
- Let the design cool for a few seconds and then carefully peel away the shiny transfer paper. If the design comes up, iron longer. {the pressing down seems to help a lot}
- Now you have a fabulously personalized shirt! ta-da!
One happy boy with his “Helicopter Dude” shirt. I was ‘Mom of the Year’ in this house for an entire morning because of this shirt!
