Nike+ chip holder TUTORIAL

Happy happy Friday!! Hope you have lots of crafty plans this weekend! I’m hoping to get some spray painting and decorating done.

Anyways, so Davis and I enjoy running. {if you knew that, you probably read my bio…} Granted we used to run a whole lot more before the kids came, but we do still get out and put some miles in.So for Christmas, I gave Davis a Nike + chip to use when he runs. {it connects with his iphone to track how far, how fast, and calories burned when he runs.}

DIY running chip holder

BUT he doesn’t have the official Nike+ shoes to hold the chip.

So part of my gift was I’d make him a holder. {no sense in buying an entire new pair of shoes when you can sew a holder, right?} So I made Davis that spiffy little boring brown chip holder there. {and yes, it did about killed me to make something so drab and boring. i mean, seriously, wouldn’t one of these be stinkin cute with a little ruffle…. or some polka dots maybe? just sayin}

So this is how I whipped up a quick chip holder in a matter of minutes and saved some money! Very simple and you can even use fabric scraps to make it.

How to Sew a Nike+ Chip

  1. Have the Nike+ chip handy
  2. All you’ll need is scissors, sewing machine, and a little scrap fabric. Cut 2 pieces of fabric to 2″ x 6″.
  3. With right sides together, sew 3 sides together- 2 long sides and 1 short side with a 1/2″ seam. Clip the corners, being careful not to snip the thread.
  4. Turn right side out.
  5. Insert the Nike+ chip into the tube.
  6. Tuck in the edges of the 4th side and sew shut.
  7. With your fingers, center the chip in the tube and folder over one side. {about 1 inch} Sew across. This creates a loop that you will thread your shoe laces through.
  8. Fold up the bottom about 1″ to create another loop and sew across. You will have two loops- one at the top and one at the bottom to thread your shoe laces through so that the chip will not flap when you’re running.
  9. Grab your running shoes and redo your laces to go through the 2 loops and then hit the trail!

If you’re already thinking about Father’s Day {kudos if you are!}, this is a great handmade gift for that running man in your life!
