Happy Friday, Friends! So its spring and you know what that means……lots and lots of Baby Showers! If you’re looking for an easy, handmade gift idea, here is a super easy burp cloth pattern for you!
I posted a version of my chenille burpies about 2 summers ago and since then, I’ve made them even easier. Check out the cute set I made for my friend’s twin boys. Love the navy and red stripes!
I still use the ridged or stripe chenille, which I totally love for burp cloths. It is by far my favorite when wiping up chubby chins because the super soft ridges grab the gunk in one swipe and it absorbs very nicely. The only thing I do differently now, is omit the batting in the middle.
I feel like these are soft enough and the batting didn’t really help with absorption. PLUS the batting makes them twice as thick, which takes up more precious space in the diaper bag. Or maybe I’m the only one with an overflowing diaper bag when I’m toting a new baby around! haha
But all in all, I just think they’re easier to use and easier to make. win win right there.
How to Sew Easy Burp Cloths
supplies: chenille, cotton fabric {prints are fun!}, scissors, sewing machine
- I used ridged chenille and a 100% cotton print. You can also use snuggle flannel or other fun fabrics.
- Cut each fabric into 9″ x 19″ pieces.
- You’ll need 1 piece of each fabric for each burp cloth. {1 chenille piece + 1 print piece}
- Place the fabric pieces right side together and pin together {optional}.
- Sew together using a 1/2″ seam.
- Leave a 3″ opening so that you can turn your burp cloth inside out.
- Trim the corners with your scissors. {be careful not to cut the threads!}
- Turn it right side out and push corners out with the blunt end of a pencil or a dowel.
- Tuck the edges of the 3″ opening in and top stitch with a 1/4″ seam on the right side on all 4 sides. NOTE: I did not use a walking or rolling foot. The ridges in the chenille help the fabric feed through the feed dogs just fine. But if you are more comfortable using a walking foot for this last step, use it!
These nubby burp cloths will make a new mommy very happy! And you’ll get bonus points for making them. sweet!
happy crafting,
linda
