  1. First paint the edges of your wood plaque with black craft paint. I like to place plastic grocery bags underneath my projects to protect my work space and reuse the bags. Plus, the plastic doesn’t stick to the paint like paper would.

2. Print a Halloween image on the Cotton Canvas paper. I used the back feed option on my Canon printer and the Plain Paper settings on High.

Note: I found the cool skull clip art for free here.

cut-skull

3. Use scissors to cut around the skull. I left a little room around the skull.

4. Using a candle or lighter, carefully singe the edges of the cotton canvas around the skull. ***PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL DOING THIS STEP. Always handle candles or fire with caution. I highly recommend doing this near a sink or water source and having good ventilation. Be careful not to get your fingers or hands close to the open flame.*** Allow the cotton canvas to cool.

5. Using Mod Podge, apply the paper to the wood pennant. Allow Mod Podge to dry thoroughly.

peel-off-backing

6. Peel off the backing on the cotton canvas and apply to the sign.

7. Hot glue pom poms underneath the skull and glue ribbon to the back of the sign to hang.
