Halloween Fabric Banner TUTORIAL

good morning! i’m rather excited to show off my latest craft……this adorable fabric halloween banner!

Halloween Fabric Banner

halloween fabric banner. Easy halloween craft idea!

Isn’t this scrappy Halloween fabric banner so stickin’ cute?! i  love the all the colors in the fabrics. and it was SOooo easy to make! i love what it adds to my mantel. so much color and fun-ness!

i love it on my mantel! it adds so much color and texture.  it would also be so cute on a shelf, in a doorway, or for your Halloween party draped on tables or something.

.

ok, now onto this festive Halloween banner tutorial! this is such an easy craft {as my friend cara said, ‘it is relaxing and fun to make’} and perfect for the kids to help with!

Supplies: 1 yard total of halloween theme/color fabric, rotary or scissors, 90″ of rope or piping, and fray check.

1. apply fray check to the ends of your rope to seal them. you may also do this with a lighter, but it will leave the ends black. i’ve also heard that clear nail polish works for this as well.

2. cut your fabric into 1″x 9″ strips which will be approx 140 strips. you will most likely have extras depending on how close together you tie them.

3. how to knot each strip: fold your fabric strip in half {so it measures 1″ x 4.5″} with right sides together. put your finger in the loop that is created and place under the rope, as shown above. you will then fold the 2 ends of the strip over the rope and through the loop that your finger is in.

{big thanks to cara for being my hand model!}

4. pull the ends through the loop and pull tight.

5. push the knots together so that you cannot see the rope between the knots. *Tip: do not scrunch them too much! you want to be able to see the patterns on the fabrics.

6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for each fabric strip until you have the length desired for your banner.

proudly display your fabulous Halloween banner wherever you like! too easy, huh?

I think of all the Halloween crafts I’ve seen over the past few weeks, that banner has got to be my favorite. The colors are great. I like that is’ fun & obviously a Halloween decoration without being your typical Halloween themed decoration (I hope that makes sense). I’m definitely going to put a link to this on my blog at the end of this week. I look forward to seeing your monthly craft kits too.

I absolutely LOVE this banner and am making it as we speak. I decided to do it with wire so I can manipulate it more, make it longer (for our banister) and I’m throwing in some tulle. And it’s just my skill level to boot!

      hi Ali,
sorry this is like a week later, but awesome!!! good idea to use wire! send me a pic or a link. i’d love to see it!

    Hey Linda,
I love the banner and have fabric to make one. Did you use a rotary? I cannot cut straight and using scissors will take forever. I guess it is time to invest in a rotary, huh? This will be so cute for our quintuplets birthday party. They turn 7 on 11/3 and we are having their birthday party 10/29, Halloween theme!

Got both a rotary cutter and a mat 50% off! I am figuring things out all by myself!

I fell in love with that garland immediately and had to make one right away! I love the colors in yours, but I had some Halloween fabric on hand that I used and I love how it turned out. You can see it here: http://mightycrafty.blogspot.com/2011/10/halloween-garland.html Thank you so much for the inspiration! I love the Craft Club kits as well and am looking forward to seeing what’s coming up!

How did you cut all the strips? I don’t own a rotary cutter but it may be time to get one. We are having a party for our quints on 10/29 for their 7th birthday and it is Halloween theme.

This is way too adorable! I found this post on Pinterest (the updated mantle one) and I absolutely love it! Such fun colors :) I’m going to make this – I think it will really brighten up my living room! Thanks for sharing :)

Hi there!!! I adore the banner and plan to make one for each of the children!!! also one for my business!

re the craft club… is it possible to see next month’s 3 options and purchase? It’d be great to receive the kits in the first wk of each month! This way, if things are hectic, I can relax with the craft whenever I can find 5 min at a time?! I don’t want to get the craft finished after the holiday! (Which is why I haven’t gotten back to crafting- it seems by the time I can get around to looking for great ideas, a wk has gone by… another wk to get to the craft store and hopefully by the third wk of the month I can *start the craft!)

    ;)

Thank you so much for this option!!!! I feel the sanity returning already! OH and will you have a Mommy’s Option each mo where kids might participate (if I just can’t find a moment to myself….) they do love to craft esp my younger son!!!

SO cute! i was wondering what lengths you bought for each fabric?

    1. 30.1

I bought them online. Most are Riley Blake prints. A couple other prints I found at Joanns and Hancock Fabrics.
