One of my favorite things about fall is pumpkins. PUMPKINS!!! I love to craft with them, gawk at them, and best of all, EAT them. ha! Today I am sharing a simple DIY fall vignette featuring the cutest Framed Fall Pumpkins!
DIY Framed Fall Pumpkins
This month for Michaels Makers we were challenged to create something with craft pumpkins. So when I was at my local Michaels store and saw these half pumpkins I knew I had to use them! Have you seen them? They are brilliant! Its a craft pumpkin cut in half with a built in hanger. They are brilliant. Trust me. Life changing if you’ve ever cut a craft pumpkin in half!
I added some cute fall picks and burlap bows to my white craft pumpkins. Living in the south, I love the one with the cotton so much! We used to live near some cotton fields and we’d drive by this time of year and see the fields bobbing with white cotton balls. So pretty!
Blue mason jars are so perfect for fall decor! I found this vintage 1/2 gallon one at a Thrift store for $10. But you can make your own blue mason jars. Click here to see how.
Framed Fall Pumpkins Tutorial
Supplies:
- 11×14 Unfinished Wood Frame
- 2 Coordinating Fall Fabrics
- 2 White Half Pumpkins
- Burlap Ribbon
- Scissors
- Foam Brush
- Dark Gray Chalk Paint
- Cream Chalk Paint
- Fine Grit sand paper
- 2 Fall Picks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Black Craft Paint {optional}
1. Paint the wood frame gray.
2. Then paint over the gray with cream paint, being careful to get all nooks and crannies.
3. Lightly sand to distress and expose gray paint.
4. Flip frame over and hot glue fabric to the back of the frame to cover the 11×14 opening.
5. Using a foam brush, brush black craft paint in the grooves of the pumpkin and then lightly wipe with a paper towel so that some paint is left behind. Allow paint to dry. {This step is OPTIONAL but adds dimension to your pumpkin and makes it look more real.}
6. Bend the stem of the Fall Pick in half and hot glue to the stem of the craft pumpkin.
7. Tie a bow with the burlap ribbon, trim off excess. Hot glue to pumpkin stem so that it covers the end of the Fall Pick.
8. Hang the frame with fabric on the wall. Then center the pumpkin in the frame and decide where you want it to hang. Then hammer a small nail or brad through the fabric into the wall to hang the pumpkin on.
Then enjoy your beautiful new DIY fall decor! You can do so many things with this idea. I did a halloween framed half pumpkin here.

Are part of the instructions missing from this? On instruction #8 it says “Hang the frame with fabric on the wall. Then …………. and it stops there. Can you please tell me the remainder of the instructions? Thank you
Sorry I didn’t say which project, it’s framed fall pumpkins. thank you
So sorry about that, Lydia! Not sure what happened, but the last part of that step got eaten in the code somewhere. I fixed it. It should read: 8. Hang the frame with fabric on the wall. Then center the pumpkin in the frame and decide where you want it to hang. Then hammer a small nail or brad through the fabric into the wall to hang the pumpkin on.
Thanks for the heads up! Let me know if you have any other questions!
