DIY Pineapple Sign + Silhouette Challenge

DIY Pineapple Sign with Psych Quote, "Are you a fan of delicious flavor?" love it!

DIY Pineapple Sign

In case you missed it, pineapples are rather popular this summer. {see my pineapple shirt here.} And I think its rather fitting for this pineapple trend to magically happen during summer, because pineapples are a classic summer fruit. They are not only delicious, but they remind me of tropical beaches and pretty sunsets.

Pineapples = summer….right? YES!

Which is why I chose to do a pineapple craft for the Silhouette Challenge Box contest. {more details on that in a minute}

Now wait, there’s more than meets the eye here with this particular sign. Those of you who watch the show, Psych might have already caught this……

Psych Quote Sign

Psych Pineapple Sign Quote. "Are you a fan of delicious flavor?" Shawn Spenser“Are you a fan of delicious flavor?” is a quote from Shawn Spenser {James Roday} on Psych.

Yep, Davis and I LOVE the show, Psych! We love us some Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster action. They are absolutely hilarious! For those who have not seen Psych {go watch it right now! You’ll thank me later.} each episode has a pineapple in it. So I couldn’t do a pineapple craft without a Psych spin on it.

I probably should have saved this for a Christmas gift for Davis because he thinks this is the most awesomest craft I’ve ever made!

I am rather fond of it myself. It turned out exactly how I envisioned it. yay!

Pineapple Sign Tutorial

Supplies:

  • 12″x24″x1″ piece of wood
  • semi-transparent wood stain
  • Silhouette CAMEO
  • Vinyl
  • Transfer Tape
  • Silhouette scraper & hook tool
  • sander/sand paper
  • white craft paint
  • foam brush

DIY Wood Pineapple Sign tutorial

  1. Stain your piece of wood, wiping off excess stain. I did about 3 coats because I wanted a nice, dark color. Allow to dry over night.
  2. Sand all the edges of the board and lightly over the flat sides to give it a distressed look.
  3. Cut out a pineapple design in vinyl with your Silhouette CAMEO. {I designed the pineapple with the quote inside. more details on that coming soon.}
  4. Weed out the extra vinyl with the hook tool and using the transfer tape and scraper, transfer the vinyl stencil to the wood. {the vinyl adhered very well to the wood and created an awesome stencil.}
  5. Using a foam brush, pounce on white paint over the vinyl stencil. I did 2 coats of white paint.
  6. Carefully remove the vinyl and attach a sawtooth hanger on the back of the wood so you can hang it on the wall.

Psych Quote- Pineapple sign. Seriously in love with this wood sign.

What do you think? Are you a fan of pineapples?
