My cute friend, Micah, is getting married this summer and of course, I wanted to make something for her! Personalized wedding gifts make me happy! So for one of my Canon Crafts, {I love working with Canon!} I whipped together a Burlap DIY Monogram Wedding Gift. I designed a fun monogram with her and her groom’s names in photoshop and then printed it out on burlap then popped it into a frame!
DIY Burlap Monogram Wedding Gift Idea
And you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to print on burlap! Honestly, I was a little afraid, but it worked so well. My little gold Canon PIXMA MG7720 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer and it worked like a charm. You simply have to add a stabilizer to the back of your burlap and it goes right through your printer, no problem.*
*Just a heads up, printing on burlap is not recommended in the owner’s manual, so keep an eye out in case it jams! Luckily, I had no problems and it turned out just fine.
Here’s how I did it.
How to Print on Burlap Tutorial
Supplies:
- Inkjet printer {I used Canon PIXMA MG7720 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer}
- Burlap
- Freezer paper
- Iron
- Scissors
- Cut a piece of Burlap and Freezer Paper to 8.5 x 11 inches. {Want to learn how to cut burlap straight + other burlap tips? Check out this post!}
2. Place your burlap onto ironing board and then place the freezer paper on top with SHINY {smooth} side DOWN. Then with your iron on cotton setting, iron all over for 3-5 seconds in each spot.
3. Then load your Freezer Paper/Burlap combo into your printer making sure that the burlap side will be printed on. For my Canon PIXMA MG7720 Wireless Photo All-in-One Printer, I have to place my burlap face down.
4. Print off your design. {YAY! It worked!}
5. Then peel your burlap off the freezer paper and trim it to be 8 x 10 and pop into a frame! EASY!
I designed my monogram in Photoshop:
I am HORRIBLE at photoshop, but if I can, I know you can too!
Fonts I used: Baskerville and Aaron Script.
I plan to keep this design as a template and whip these out for future handmade customized wedding gifts. Or even Christmas Gifts?? What do you think?
