DIY Halloween Apothecary Jar

Happy Monday! Who’s getting in the Halloween mood with fall just around the corner? I sure am! I’ll admit, I’ve done several Halloween craft over the last couple weeks, {yes, I will be posting them soon :) Here is the first one up, my DIY Halloween Apothecary Jar made from an old pickle jar! This is a great upcycle craft that is perfect for the spooky holiday.

DIY Apothecary Jar

Apothecary Jar

This was so easy to make! And I love green tinted glass. It completes the Halloween feel for this craft.

How to Make an Apothecary Jar

supplies: candle stick, empty pickle jar, E6000, DecoArt Glass Stain in Green {you can find it in the glass isle at Michaels}, paper towels, spray paint, embellishments.

DIY apothecary jars

I used a candle stick and an old pickle jar to make an apothecary jar. So it only cost me a couple dollars to make this fun Halloween craft!

  1. Wash pickle jar and remove all labels. I used Goo Be Gone to remove the stickiness. DecoArt glass stain
  2. Make sure jar is completely dry and then squeeze a generous amount of DecoArt Glass Stain into the bottom of the pickle jar.how to stain a glass jar
  3. Swirl the paint around until the entire inside of the jar is coated.decoart
  4. Tip the jar upside down an set on a paper towel placed in a paper plate. Let the excess glass stain drain from the jar, then flip it right side up and allow to dry. {you will have a little paint pool at the bottom of the jar, but this prevent an ombre effect with the paint}
  5. I did 2 coats on my green jar, so I let it dry for about an hour and then repeated the steps for a second coat to get a darker hue.
  6. Spray paint the candle stick and pickle jar lid black.
  7. Once all the paint has dried, use E6000 or super glue to adhere the candle stick to the bottom of the pickle jar. Allow to dry for 4-6 hours.
  8. Embellish as you like and add to your holiday decor!

*DecoArt Glass Stain can be hand washed with soap and water only and is meant for decorate purposes only. So do not sure on eating surfaces.

packing peanuts

I filled my green apothecary jar with packing peanuts to look like “brains” and then embellished with orange polka dot ribbon and a chalkboard tag. So easy and super cute!

Such an easy Halloween craft that you can make on the cheap!

Huge thanks to DecoArt for sending me some of their awesome glass paint to try out. I thought it was great to use and the odor was pleasant, not stinky. I liked the Glass Stain consistency for this project, I felt it coated nicely and quickly. I liked the transparency of the final product. It shows off the contents of the apothecary jar nicely.
