Crocheted Candy Corn Bunting Tutorial

Hi everyone, Erica here again from 5 Little Monsters. Today I wanted to share a fun Halloween decoration with you. When it comes to Halloween I am more of a cutesy decoration person, I”m really not into gross, gory, scary stuff. I decided to crochet a candy corn bunting, the triangle bunting shape just seemed perfect for candy corn. Personally I think that candy corn are disgusting to eat but as far as decorations I think they can be cute.

The candy corn are made by making a triangle shape of double crochet, it is really pretty easy. I did three rows of each color to created the stripes of the candy corn. Then they are connected by single crocheting across the top of each candy corn and chaining in between.

I originally planned to make the part across the top black, but when I tested it out I decided that it seemed a little darker than I wanted so I decided to use orange instead. I like both options, I just decided I preferred the orange. I thought I would show a picture of each just to show another color option.

I made my bunting using 5 candy corn. You can make as many or as few as you like, the finished candy corn are about 5 inches across the top and 5 inches from the top to the point. The entire length of my bunting, including the hanging ends, is about 43-44 inches. If you don”t want to make a bunting the individual candy corn would make great coasters for Halloween time.

How to Make Candy Corn Bunting

You will need:

  • worsted weight yarn in yellow, orange, and white (I used cotton yarn, Peaches and Cream in Sunshine, Bright Orange and White, one small ball of each is more than enough)
  • H crochet hook
  • scissors
  • yarn needle

You will begin by making all of your candy corn pieces. I made 5, you can make more or less depending on the length you want your bunting.

*beginning ch 2 does not count as a stitch

*dc decreases are made by wrapping the yarn around the hook, inserting in first stitch, pulling up loop, wrap yarn again, and pull through 2 loops (up to this point it is worked exactly like a normal dc), you should have 2 loops left on the hook, wrap yarn again, insert in next stitch, pull up a loop, wrap yarn and pull through 2 loops, wrap yarn and pull through last 3 loops

starting with yellow, ch 20 (18 plus ch2 for turning)

Row 1: dc dec starting in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next 14 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (16 dc)

Row 2: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in next 12 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (14 dc)

Row 3: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in next 10 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches, change to orange yarn (12 dc)

Row 4: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in next 8 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (10 dc)

Row 5: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in 6 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (8 dc)

Row 6: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in 4 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches, change to white (6 dc)

Row 7: ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc in 2 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (4 dc)

Row 8:ch 2, turn, dc dec across first 2 stitches, dc dec across last 2 stitches (2 dc)

Row 9: ch 2, turn, dc dec (1 dc)

Weave in ends on all of your candy corn and you are ready to connect all of them together.
