Crochet Doily Trivets

Hi everyone, Erica here from 5 Little Monsters. The very first project that I posted on Craftaholics Anonymous® was a crocheted bunting with hearts and doilies. The doilies were basically just half a doily and ever since I made that project I have wanted to turn that half doily into a full, round doily. I still wanted to make them with yarn rather than thread like doilies are normally made with. I thought that with cotton yarn they could make nice trivets to set hot pans on or just used as a doily, maybe with a jar or vase filled with flowers. Plus, they work up really fast in yarn and I like fast projects.

I made two different sizes, the smaller one is about 7 1/2″ across and is basically the same pattern as the bunting just a full circle rather than half. To make the larger one I simply added a round of double crochet to the center, it is just over 9″ across. If you wanted to make it even bigger all you need to do is add more center rounds.

I love the vintage style of doilies and I think they are a fun way to add a little bit of pretty to a room and by making them with yarn they are a little less lacy and old, not to mention so much easier to make.
