Crafty Space: Jenn from Clean and Scentsible’s Craft Room

Hello Craftaholics!  My name is Jenn and I blog over at Clean and Scentsible.  I was so thrilled when Linda asked me to share my craft space with you!  So let’s take a look at my little crafty retreat!

I work part time as a pediatric physiotherapist and am a Mommy to two busy boys.  I had been dreaming of my own craft space for ages.  Somewhere to relax, create, and be inspired!  Oh, and it had to be girly and pretty too!

Back in January, this is what I started with.

Yep, not very inspiring to say the least! This was the one unfinished room in our basement and was pretty much the dumping ground for everything.   Although we didn’t have enough money to finish the whole room {and we still needed somewhere to store the junk!}, there was a natural division where this little nook was to create a second room.  My wonderful Dad and hubby did all of the drywalling, molding and flooring.  All I had to do was the fun stuff!

My biggest project in the room was the stencilled wall.  It took me FOREVER {well, over 12 hours anyways!}.

But, I must say I love the final result and would do it again.  If you are planning on doing some stenciling, you can read my tips here– hopefully it will save you a few headaches!!!

The desk was purchased from Target.  I didn’t need a really large desk space as I usually like to craft on the floor {I am a very messy crafter!}  The chair, lamp, and wall organizer {which is actually a spice rack} were purchased from Ikea.

There are a couple of little shelves on each of the legs of the desk that I have stored some baskets:

And a cutlery holder works well for storage in the drawer:

I bought a floating shelf from Home Depot for above the desk and added a few accessories.  I made the pink flower ball, subway sign, and little butterfly twigs

I have the majority of my storage along one of the side walls.  All of the white storage cubes are from Michaels and have been purchased over time.  They are often 40% off and you can sometimes snag a 50% coupon every now and then.  They work great for storing paper, embellishments, tools, etc.  I generally have all of my stickers and other embellishments sorted by season or event {i.e. summer, Christmas, birthdays…} and the drawers are all labelled.

I purchased the large metal storage rack from Costco for $35.  The large basket on top holds a variety of crafting supplies.  I am going to add some pictures and some of my favorite quotes to the little tree thing on the top shelf {one of the little projects still left to do!}.  The black magazine holders are paper storage and fit 12 x 12 paper.  I have tried to keep supplies as visible and as easily accessible as possible.  It is amazing what you forget you have when it is stored away!

I used some glass containers and some potting tins for my loose ribbon.

And a spice rack to hold my buttons.

I used an Ikea frame and some metal flashing to create this magnetic dry erase board and added some magnetic clothes pegs.  The tutorial for the magnetic dry erase board can be found here.

On the opposite wall I have this file folder/shelving system which I LOVE!  It was purchased from Target {online} for about $60.  I then added the vinyl Create lettering.
When I was initally clearing out my room, I had a ton of magazines and books marked with sticky notes highlighting projects or ideas that I liked.  They were taking up way too much space and it was not a very functional system if I was looking for a particular idea.  So I labelled each of the file folders with a particular subject or Season, tore out the pages, and filed them away.  Favorite craft and decorating books were stored below in the shelving.
On the back wall of the room I added a few cork board circles for photos and mounted an old flower bin to the wall for more storage.

Here’s a close up of one of the cork boards and flower tacks.

And one more final look:
Well, I hope you enjoyed the little tour!  Thank-you so much to Linda for letting me hang out for the day! Come drop by and say hi anytime!
