Craft Space {Rachel from Albequerque Turkeys}

Hello crafty ladies! My name is Rachel, and I blog over at the Albuquerque Turkeys where I share project ideas (mostly sewing), pictures, little blurbs about life (mostly my beautiful daughter), and hopefully soon, some tutorials. I am thrilled that Linda has invited me to share my little craft nook today–hopefully you all enjoy it!

My hubby and I will someday become home owners… but for now, we are living the dream (nightmare?) as home renters. This means our decorating options are limited. Still, I think I managed to turn this in to a pretty great room! The most important key to this room was to use space wisely… so here it is… the big reveal…

(I sewed the curtains to actually match a quilt I sewed that is in another room of the house–oops!)

This piece of furniture is my favorite thing about this room. Would you believe that it was an ugly brown set of dresser drawers before its new life as a sewing cabinet? Take my word for it–it was ugly. You can read this post for tips on how to transform an ugly dresser in to a fab sewing cabinet. It’s a doozy.

I am not sure where I saw it, but I got the idea to hang my fabric somewhere out there in blog land. I love being able to see the fabric without having to dig through a huge bin!

The inside of my cabinet houses pillow forms, batting, and stuffing (plus a few miscellaneous odds and ends) And I haven’t painted the inside yet. I got lazy.

On top of the cabinet, I organized my sewing scissors and my markers in a couple Pampered Chef turnabouts my mom was going to throw out. The picture is of my daughter–isn’t she adorable?

Next to the cabinet is my desk. Nothing too exciting there, unless you’d like to see how I pay my bills. No? Ok, moving on.

Here is my little corner dealio. My aunt made most of the stuffed animals I put on display (they are all cats. I like cats–though my husband wishes I didn’t!) She is the most amazingly talented lady, and sells a lot off stuffed animals through her Etsy shop, Michelle’s Zoo.

This is my little pattern drawer.  Not much to see, other than that clothes patterns are in the top drawer…

…and miscellaneous patterns are in the bottom.

I put all my paint up here so it would be easily accessible to me, but not so accessible to the kiddos.

Sewing table and cutting table–not much to say other than that I haven’t hemmed the fabric I laid out as table cloths yet. I will get to it some day. Who likes hemming, anyway? Oh, and a scrap bin and scrapbooking bin are housed underneath. I am not sure why my pilates ball is next to my cutting table–I guess it doesn’t do a lot of good sitting in the sewing room!

And finally, my thread/ribbon board. The peg board for this project is the ONLY thing in this entire room I had to purchase (other than the computer and the shower rod I used to hang the fabric on–the furniture was all given to us by family). I spray painted it white, glued in some dowels, and stuck the thread and ribbon on–easy as pie. And it keeps the thread within reach and prevents it from being tangled!

So, that’s my room! The best part of this little room of mine is that it was 99% free! Thanks for sticking with the tour, and hope you all have the chance to visit my blog some time. And thanks again to Linda for having me!!
