DIY Boho Flower Wall hanging craft idea. Cheap to make! All you need is 3 egg cartons and a stick!

When I had the idea, to turn egg cartons into a pretty flower wall hanging, I had some serious doubts if it would turn out. I even told my friend, Cindi about it and reassured her that I had back up plans if this didn’t turn out! I honestly could see this being a huge craft fail. But I am happy to report that it was a huge craft success in my book!

Here’s a front on shot so you can get a better idea.

Turning egg cartons into flowers was easy, but took about 1.5 hours to cut all 35 of them out. But that 1.5 hours of my week was my grocery time! I used Kroger’s new ClickList to do my grocery shopping and it saved me so much time. I simply went online and selected all my groceries, including milk and produce and then scheduled a time for pick-up.

Kroger ClickList

When I got there, I simply called the number on the sign and a couple minutes later, I had two awesome Kroger employees bringing out my groceries. They loaded my car and were careful to put my eggs and bread in a spot where they wouldn’t get smashed. I had the best customer service! {And no, the employees didn’t know I was a blogger!} I did my grocery shopping in all of 5 minutes while pregnant with 2 kids in tow. That NEVER happens!! I am a huge fan of ClickList and plan to use it frequently. It was way too easy and convenient! The ClickList saves your favorite items and past purchases making it quick and easy to order online.

Ok, so what did I do with my empty egg cartons from Kroger? I made the cutest wall hanging! Here’s how I did it.

How to Make DIY Boho Flower Wall Hanging Tutorial

Supplies:

  • 3 Egg Cartons
  • Scissors
  • Spray Paint (I used 3 different colors of pink)
  • 26″ long Stick (found in the back yard)
  • Hemp Twine

How to make egg carton flowers

  1. Using scissors, cut apart your egg cartons to make different shaped and sized flowers.

2. Paint the egg carton flowers. I used 3 different shades of pink spray paint for mine. But you could use craft paint as well. I painted both sides of the flowers, but mainly focused on the bottoms because that is what shows the most on the wall hanging.

3. Poke a hole in the bottom of each flower using the pointy end of the scissors. Be careful not to poke your fingers! Might be a good idea to use gloves or a hard surface to do this step.

4. Thread an egg carton flower onto a piece of twine that measures about 40″ long.

5. Then tie a knot to hold the flower in hanging position. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until there are 5 flowers on your piece of twine. Then repeat until you have 7 strands of egg cartons flowers.

6. Tie the 7 strands of flowers to your stick, trying to make them as evenly spaced apart as you can. I varied the height of each strand of flowers.

7. Tie a piece of twine to both ends of the stick so that you can hang it on the wall. And you’re done!
