BOO wreath TUTORIAL

Halloween Wreath

Use this step by step picture tutorial to learn how to make a Halloween Wreath.

Halloween Wreath
I made this cute black burlap Halloween wreath and it is so easy to make and the turn out stinkin cute! {see my Christmas version here}

Halloween Wreath Tutorial

Supplies
  • 1.25 yards of black burlap cut into 1″x16″ strips {i used a rotary cutter, but if you want to prevent most of the loose strands, you could use this burlap cutting technique.}
  • 14″ foam wreath ring
  • black paint {i used craft paint, but spray paint would work, too}
  • scissors or rotary cutter
 paint your wreath ring black to hide the green under the burlap.
 when the paint dries, tie the burlap strips around the ring with a double knot.
 overlap the strips a little and bunch them together so you have a full wreath.keep adding strips and arranging until you like the overall look of the wreath.
*note: if you have to untie a strip, don’t plan to use it again. the burlap will basically be shredded.*
 embellish with your SPOoKIEST finds.
i used wooden letters, painted them black, and then mod podged Halloween paper to them.

how to make a halloween wreath

 and there you have one easy, fun Halloween wreath!
sorry for all the super early Halloween posts, but i really want Halloween to come quickly because that means the baby will be here!! :o)

*Davis told me to take my Boo wreath down today. he said people would think i was weird for having it up so early. hehehe it made me laugh!*>added later: In regards to how I attached the Wood BOO letters to the wreath, I simply hot glued them on. To do that, I pulled the ends of the burlap ties back so that I could hot glue the letters to the flat portion of the burlap ties that go around the wreath form. I glued in several different spots to secure the letters.<

    did you hot glue the letter to the wreath after it was all done??? Love the idea

    1. 54.1

      Hi Natalie,
      Yes, I hot glued the letters in place. I tried to glue them to the wreath base and not the lose burlap ends. if you have more questions, just let me know.

    Is the deminsion of 1″ X 16″ for the burlap strips correct? I wanted to make sure before I started cutting my burlap. It just seems a little long. Thanks for your help!

    1. 58.1

      Hi Mandy,
      Yes, that is what the measurement I used. If you are using a foam wreath form similar to mine, it will work just fine. If you have a thinner wreath form {ex: straw} then you will probably need to adjust the measurement to fit your wreath form. Or if you don’t want as much extra around the wreath, go ahead and shorten and adjust so that you like the look! You may want to cut 1 strip, tie it on and see if you like it and then go from there before you commit to cutting your entire piece of burlap.

    I was gonna take this and twist it different. instead of the all black and BOO. I was gonna sub out all the black burlap with that of a mixture of fall colors and put up little wooden pumpkins and such as a fall wreath. i just have one question. I am having a hard time finding burlap in a variety of colors can you recommend a website to buy some or do you know of another fabric or material i can use in replace of the burlap. thanks!!

    1. 59.1

      Hi Amanda,
      I just barely saw your question. Sorry to be so slow! I get my colored burlap from Joann’s. They have quite a selection. You could also use cotton fabric. the heavier weight the better it will hold its shape. hope this helps!
      happy crafting,

    Hello there. I love this wreath and am currently in the process of making it. I was wondering how you did the colors on the BOO letters. I like to do little crafts but am not, by nature, a very crafty person. ; p Thanks for you help! I can’t wait to get it finished and hung up. : )

    1. 66.1

      Hi Katie,
      I traced the letters on scrapbook paper and then decoupaged the paper letters on top of the wood. Then did another coat of decoupage to seal the paper. Hope this helps!
      happy crafting,
      Linda

    1. 70.1

      Hi Tammy,
      I got the black burlap at either Joanns or Ben Franklin, I can’t remember! I think it was about 1/2 yard or so of burlap.

    I have all the supplies ready to go but I’m still confused about the measurements for the burlap. Did you just cut it into 16 pieces? Excited to make this but need a little help

      1. Tanya

        Thanks for replying Linda, I was doing the project on my phone and it wasn’t displaying the inch marks which is what led to all the confusion. But made it last night and super cute.
